Xbox Controller Acts As A Usb Hub?
« on: December 12, 2002, 12:50:00 PM »

Ok, I got a couple of questions about this now.

One, if I were to use a third party controller, (ex, interact) is the soldering diagrams the same? I want to add a few to mine now.

me bought, usb extension $4, xbox extender came with this generic controller for $20, so free.
== Xbox->USB  &&  USB->Xbox,

the driver doesn't work so well for my PC but the keyboard on xbox is pretty nice.

QUOTE (Col.Havoc @ Dec 13 2002, 11:29 AM)
And what about the third party controller thing?

                                    Works fine. Basically, any controller that has memory card slots has to work, otherwise it wouldn't work properly for it's intended purpose.

So go buy yourself a cheap, shitty controller, and turn it into something useful wink.gif

Not sure if this is possible at this point, but has anyone tried playing something like Halo with the keyboard/mouse combo?  Are the keys/buttons mapable for gameplay?

John

No.

The keyboard is only supported by debug libraries, and M$ will not allow games to be released with these libraries (when developing software, as I have, it even tells you they are unsupported).

There is no mouse support at all in the Xbox BIOS or libraries. Adding such support would require new code to be written.

Alright, if I remember correctly, the XBox controller acts as a USB Hub, and, if that is correct, I am lead to the assumption that the two memory card slots on a controller are standard USB ports with a non-standard fitter (like the plugs for the XBox controller themselves). Does this mean you could theoretically hack apart a controller and hook two USB devices up to the same port (by using the hacked up controller as a 2-port 'hub')?

Do both work at once? Did you test it out with a keyboard/mouse or something?
If it did work, why don't you throw up a tut on it? I'd like to know what wires go where and whatnot. =-)

This maybe off topic but I beleive I have seen the following at lik-sang;

MS Xbox USB adapter cable for USB devices

Our USB adapter for Xbox(female) allows you to hook up virtually any USB hardware to the MS Xbox controller ports. Ever wondered how to use Linux on the Xbox? Now here's the answer. It features a standard USB type A female socket (identical to the ones your PC is offering). Use more cables to connect more devices to your liking - up to 4 devices can be hooked up to the 4 controller slots, using USB hubs will allow you to hook up many more devices. Please check if the desired hardware is supported by the software. The cable length is approx. 1m, this allows you also to hook up devices that have very short USB cables and operate it from a reasonable distance.

Price: 12.90 USD  (~8.42 GBP)

Another advantage of using this method is that you first get the whole length of the xbox controller cable plus the length of the peripheral you plug in.

Do these USB ports have any use outside of running Linux on the old box?
