:::sigh:::

First off, the "no mod chip" business is simply referring to flashing the onboard TSOP. Nothing new or earth shattering.

As for th HD replacement stuff, AGAIN, you all have to understand that NO PROGRAMS will run from the hard drive that were not placed there by MS without changing the BIOS (with a mod chip or flashing it) because they must be SIGNED. Evo-X and other homebrew apps are not signed.

Flashing the TSOP onboard the Xbox is not trivial, and is, IMO, riskier than installing a mod chip. We've already seen the unfortunate results of some such experiments here.

OK bungholes.

That crap about the hard drive key is only for unmodded xbox.

I have taken a hard drive from my mates modded xbox and formatted his f: partition on my xbox and when he installed that hard drive into his xbox all worked fine.

Also i have taken the hard drive from other peoples modded xbox's and have read there hard drives fine,so it seems to me that the hard drive thing only works with original hard drive and not modded xbox's with the hard drive swap trick

What you seem to be saying is that all Xbox "original" hard drives are swappable between modded units?

That implies the HD password is the same for all Xboxes. Interesting, and somewhat useful information, that is.

ReVVin - good come back!! lol

Now let me break it down to u, first off i didn't ask the question pCeSlAyEr did, and for your info I am old enough to be your father's father!! (lol)

Maybe this is going to be a come back and say a smart remark Post to u, but for people more mature (me) could drop the subject.  So Go fuck yourself, drop dead for all i care as long as u don't bring the shit to me!!

the subject about the Hd Swap without MOD xbox is dropped!!
it doesn't work, I tried it and everything i could think of and still doesn't work so get over it everyone. The idea was grreat and the post people suggested were great, but now drop the subject. this has been attempted many times in different ways with different company hd's (seagate + WD) and still didn't work..

SO DROP THE SUBJECT UNLESS U WANT TO WASTE YOUR TIME!!

and if u eventually do get it to work share the knowledge.

And as for ReVVin, give up, u take this post way to seriously, and i never asked for your help so "dont f**king ask for it!" wasn't called for so fuck u in lame terms and like i said before Go Kill YOURSELF and drop the subject!!

Ok.

I do not know if you can take an original xbox hard drive from an unmodded xbox and then install that hard drive into another xbox.

What i have found is that if you have 2 modded xbox then you can swap the hard drives without a problem.

Either these hacked bios's have the password word option removed or it is because most people are using maxtor hard drives as the wd hard drive support the password option but my mate put a wd 120gig hard drive into his xbox and when he could not format his f: partition we simply removed his hard drive and installed it into mine without any of the swap trick to unlock hard drive and i installed his drive into my xbox and formatted his hd and then when he reflashed his bios the f: partition was there and still formatted.

This can be confirmed simply but getting 2 modded xboxs together and just remove the hd from one and plug it into the 2nd xbox and switch on and all should work fine as it did for me.

Now wait a second.... what you seem to be saying is that you simply swapped NON-ORIGINAL HDs between modded Xboxes. This is not unusual, since NON-ORIGINAL Hard Drives do not care about the ATA password - they have not had the password set in them at all, so the command to 'unlock' the drive with a password does nothing at all.

Now if you were swapping ORIGINAL Xbox HDs between Xboxes, that would be a different matter altogether. That would imply the passwords are not the same, but this is not the case.

Yes, but it raises a plethora of questions....

As complicated as M$ has made the Xbox protection, it leads many (myself included) who join the Xbox scene to wonder about all the possibilities.

Knowing that the Xbox xbe's are signed on the hard drive, we now know that you can't simply copy programs onto a hard drive and expect them to run in an unmodded system. This certainly would have been a nice hack, had M$ not had decent foresight... in fact, they've put more twists and turns than really needed - all short circuited by the cracking of the BIOS protection. biggrin.gif
