The topic is now read over 25 times and no one ever had the guts hehe.
Anyway, you (mostly here) americans don't have anything to worry. You live in a country where dvd movies come out very quick... and when they are released a DECENT quality dvd is brought.
So making your dvd player region free is just not worth the effort, the rule in europe is; get your player region free... then you can watch some serious movies in their quality DVD was meant.
I'm not saying we get all crappy dvd's, it's just the decision of the film marketing. For instance, quality doesn't matter; deliverydates are. So when a title needs a rush, they almost grab a VHS and convert it to DVD. That's a joke you think? Well i've seen some ugly DVD's in my life

Anyway, i own some region1 titles... new films hardly are region1 cause the law has gotten strickt with these things. Even rental's won't be R1 anymore. If anyone sells them you can expect the cops. I really don't get it... people are willing to buy quality titles (maybe for a few bucks more) from america... and thats illegal? Wha.... Yeah i know, they don't want to spoil people with a neat-DVD release so nobody is thinking of going to the cinema again. But that's where the money is for them... then your touching the gold of european film industry...
I'm sorry... where was i talking about?
