winCE is possible, however unless you want to run a calendar, it sucks for gaming.

lol...sounds like the xbox with windows ce might make a pretty good PDA! except for the need to be plugged in, the lack of a monitor, the huge size, etc, etc, etc

                   * Ichijouji walks into an important office meeting, wearing super baggy pants.
<Office_Guy_1> So what's the date for our next meeting?
<Ichijouji> Hold on sir, I have it on my PDA!
* Ichijouji reaches into one of his huge pockets and pulls out an Xbox.
<Ichijouji> So um...  do we have a TV to hook this up to?
<Office_Guy_2> My God Ichijouji!  That's not a PDA...  it's an Xbox!
<Ichijouji> But it has Windows CE on it!  It rocks!  And after I get the date for the next meeting, I'll school you guys in Halo!

Come to think of it, the box is already running on a Win 2K kernel...

And, before you dismiss windows CE, remember the Dreamcast (one of my fav systems)...it used Win CE....

except that DC is dead...never mind, I'm depressed now...smile.gif

Believe it or not, CE is capable of doing just about everything on the Xbox, problem is that there is no driver support (and i dont see any in the near future...) code could be ported, but then again comes the magic question of why...

CE can do video and everything else (yes is has full DirectX support, and CE .net has full DX8 support) and the package for the OS and all would be 10-16 megs, then add the app. Now what would be WILD would be to port the bleemcast to the xbox so the DC can live a little longer  biggrin.gif

just add .iso support or directories and yer off to the races!

although CE would be great i would have to think that the os on the xbox
is most like embeded NT. from my understanding each xbox game loads its own kernal/ win2k kernal. this way you can ensure that the game uses the write version.  ALso only functions that are needed are part of the game this keeps the size down on the discs, that is why games are like 1.2 gb.
if you wanted to put another os on there you would have to find a way to load it as an .xbe and then have that load the .exe into memory, i think that this will happen most likely with the linux port and a custom sdk.
