Holy crap people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Have you modded your box?!?!?!?!?!?1
GOOD!
Now you have no problem opening it!!
RIGHT?!?!?!?!?!?
GOOD!
I tried this with my HiVal DVD reader.....Just open the box
-unplug the EIDE cable and put into new DVD drive
-split the power from the XBOX HD and bring it to the new DVD reader
-KEEP THE YELLOW WIRE OF THE XBOX DVD READER PLUGGED IN....
-Start up system, put ANY original into XBOX, the imediately put the DVDR copy into the NEW DVD reader...It boots.....and NOT ONLY does it boot, it moooooooves.....fast!!!!!!  Be sure to get a DVD reader that ALSO reads CDRW's!!!!!(just in case you burnt any in this manner!!!!!)
ALL games load so much faster, because M$ decided to put shitty slow-reading drives in their baby.....now you can read as fast as the new DVD reader is.

Want games?......got a dvd burner....e-mail me, we can do deals!!!!!
ONLY SERIOUS NEED APPLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The above method works and works well.

Only thing that baffles me slightly is the need for an original disk to be in the XBOX drive.

Since you have removed the IDE cable from the XBOX this must mean that the yellow cable is supplying slightly more than just power and an eject signal.

Ideas?

I don´t know what you guys are talking about having an original in your drive. I just put the power and the ide cable to my pioneer drive and disconnected the yellow cables and it DID boot up.
tell me if that doens´t work with your boxes..,

You plug a std 4-wire plug from a computer into the dvd drive, and IDE cable, and IT LOADS ORIGINALS?  Sorry if I'm clueless...just thought ya couldn't do it.

Pmow ... did you have the yellow cable in the x-box drive or not when you managed to boot the orginals.

If the yellow cable was disconnected is it possible to try it with it in?

If originals stop loading when the cable is plugged in it would back up my theory that the yellow cable carries more than just power and eject signals.

What DVD reader were you using? Is it possable somthing to do with the tolerance of the lasers again as to if they read originals or not in the same was as its the tolerence of the orginal XBOX drives that distate what DVD-R media is readable.

It seems alot of people are getting different results but there are so many factors involved that could be slanting results.

Somehow, I doubt it. :-

You can always try overclocking it, or increasing the power to the laser.
