if you want to play a movie well on DC you have to use this special encoding tool that uses the codec that come with the system.... i would offer it but i do not believe its legal.....

wow, i tried a divx player for DC about 4 months back, and it was horrid. the vcd player (retail) wasnt even perfect.... i'm very impressed that they got it working right

You will need MP3/AC3/OGG support within the DivX player also else it would be of no use, so that's another major point with having a DivX player, MP3 only wouldn't do the job...

and these days almost everything is in AC3 or something so it's a MUST...

I'd REALLY like to see a player that can be updated/patched/codec installed.

For example, I have 150 or so of divx files, all with mp3/ac3 audio. The ideal divx player would have:

1. Optional hard drive installation
2. The same menusystem
3. Filesystem support for FAT or whatever CDs use (ISO9660? whatever)
4. codec installation, or updates of the homebrew program with other codecs.

I'd really love to see this, and I think it's only a matter of time until things migrate to the hard disk. Why load an image of the program on the disc itself, and create the need to burn movies again? VCDs are usually designed to use up all the SPACE!

This may be annoying as some movies are just small enough to fit on a 700MB CDR, a "insalled" or a swap method would be perfered, I dont mind putting one CD in then putting the movie one in, gotta think about movie placement on the CDR and the file name too, which is where a proper menu would help out..? If a media-player (e.g. mp3, wma, divx, vcd, avi...) is created for the xbox, then chances are it will be installed to the harddisk then run either automatically by the xbox when the relevant media is inserted (not sure how this would be done...)
or it will have the bulk of the program installed to HD and the rest on a swap disc to be run before the media disc.

current results out on the scene use a .xbe file on the disk with the media.

hopefully this won't be needed on every disc, and also, if you're trying to play your VCDs, chances are thoses CDRs aren't gonna work with the shitty xbox DVDROM anyway!!!
