Xdsl 0.6 Release Candidate
« Reply #15 on: June 25, 2008, 07:27:00 PM »

I would like to confirm that on a 1.1 xbox all upgrade scripts worked, flash player works, mydsl extensions are working, java works, firefox 2.0 works, xorg and xfree86 are both working. Xine movie player is working, and so is the email client, ftp client, emelfm and install scripts. The rc2 version is running very stable as far a I can tell.

I only ran into two bugs:
1. When I was installing Xfree86 the download froze and I had to restart it, but this may just be related to server load.
2. The Ram usage could be as high as 99%, and the swap will only be 1%.

Congratulations SteveWal, front page news. although there's been a bit of news today so it got pushed down but still a great achievement none the less. Seems to be quite popular too.

AFAIK, digital sound will not work as i believe it will only work with a 2.6 kernel which is being worked on atm so hold tight and hopefully there will be one soon.

the first bug would just be a server overload or a disconnection on your end.

the second seems strange, how big is your swap set to? is this within Xorg (ie, did you upgrade to Xorg)?

in terminal or in Emelfm? make sure you have the correct fonts and correct language

I tried it with a 64, 128 and 256mb swap for some reason the most it filled was 3% tops when the ram is completely filled. I used xorg at first, but later removed it and the problem was still there, even after rebooting. It's strange, does it happen with your setup? I am using a loopback system. I will try 0.7 alpha and see if this is bug is existent.

Hi, I installed flash player 9 with xdsl upgrades but some sites still ask you to download flash like ebaumsworld. Also liveleak.com videos play with sound but there is no video. I tested flash player with youtube and nothingtoxic.com and that works fine.

Any ideas?

Also I'm using an old 27' CRT TV and all corners of the screen are cut off and text is very hard to read at any resolution. Is there any way to clear that up a bit?

Hi,
I can confirm winrar and bittornado working fine under wine. All fonts showing.
You no longer need xwine, I think this is the problem. Just download wine0.9.22.dsl from the mydsl system repository and install you window apps using this. I also tested under xfree86 and xorg. Xfree86 is fine. in xorg bitornado is fine but I got some pixmap errors in winrar. Maybe I should say xorg is experimental as it has had the least amount of testing.

misfits138,   Flash 9 needs to be run from firefox2gtk2. You can get this from the upgrades menu, then right click on the firefox icon. The stock firefox only runs flash 7. If you are using an xbox hd cable for your crt tv then you should be getting a good clear picture. You can try increasing your font sizes for your apps. I always have firefox on 15 minimum. Try right click menu -> desktop -> styles -> xbox-minimal for menu larger fonts. If you've got overscan issues try the xbox 1.6 screen fix, if the dimensions are wrong you can easily adjust them in the /home/dsl/.xinitrc1.6.

Thx for the info on the sound Scuba. When you get the 2.6 kernel running I'll either include it in xdsl 0.7, or put it on the wiki for download.

OK I'll check out the ram/swap usage now.

hi,
I've tryed to replicate the ram/swap problem, but I can't. It's working fine for me in both loopback and native. Can anyone else replicate this and describe how they did it?

Yes I can confirm that this version of xdsl also does not contain the fin keyboard drivers. I think you can use something like xkeycaps.dsl from the dsl system repository.

I'm not sure how to use xinitrc1.6. I right click desktop, go to run program, and when i select xinitrc1.6 and try to run it nothing happens.

New problem... I've had to reinstall xdsl 3 times already because of this. Seems to happen at random but I'll try to run xdsl loopback install and during start up i'll get this error

"xinit:  Connection refused (errno 111):  unable to connect to X server
xinit:  No such process (errno 3):  Server error."

and I have to reinstall xdsl to get it working again.

Sorry the full error is...

Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock

have you tried removing '/tmp/.X0-lock'?

what Xserver are you running? the default, XFree86 or Xorg?

I don't know how to... I don't have a keyboard so I can't type during boot up.

I upgraded to XFree86.
