Xdsl 0.6 Release Candidate
« on: June 24, 2008, 09:42:00 AM »

Hi,

Below is the release candidate for xdsl 0.6.

Please give it a go.
It runs pretty smoothly. Any bugs can be poted in this thread.

XDSL0.6rc1.iso

To use burn to a compatible cd/dvd and put in you xbox. To install to hard drive, it it booted, go to eight click menu -> tools, and select the install type you want. Most people will use loopback with a 60mb swap file.

If you want to install by ftp then extract using winrar in windows or suitable mount command in linux and transfere files across a using instructions in the ftp_readme.

If you already have xdsl installed then dowload the file, then issue the following command from the terminal.
[/code]perl -i -ne 'if( $. == 1 ) { print "iso;iso;sudo mkdir %d/ISO 2>/dev/null && sudo mount -o loop -t iso9660 %f %d/ISO\n",$_; } else { print; } ' /home/dsl/.emelfm/filetypes
Then go the emelfm file manager and double click the file. A folder will appear called "ISO" with the contents of the disk. copy these across to make a frugal install according to the readme. If you already have a frugal install then just replace your E:/KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX the new knoppix file.

The code on the above post should have been:-

CODE
perl -i -ne 'if( $. == 1 ) { print "iso;iso;sudo mkdir %d/ISO 2>/dev/null && sudo mount -o loop -t iso9660 %f %d/ISO\n",$_; } else { print; } ' /home/dsl/.emelfm/filetypes

thanks, sounds great - will have to give this release a try soon.  xdsl has always worked very well.  just wondering if this release will make its way to sourceforge.net?

Excelent NEW that XDSL is developing for a loooong time waiting!
Previous XDSL v0.5 version did not have Finnish keyboard "drivers", does this has?
Does it have Firefox 2x / Opera 9x?

In my opinion. ALL mail & printer servers etc mem consuming services can be taken out. Pure FAST browsing is needed with Flash9 support.

Outstanding! I've been running a loopback install of XDSL for about as long as it's been around, and it's awesome to see that Xbox1 stuff has not been forgotten completely.

Does this version have support for the digital audio out?

Has it fixed the overscan problems for xbox v1.6? I know that was more of a hardware issue in the previous addition.

I already have a loopback install of XDSL on my XBOX.  How can I update it?  Do I just replace the KNOPPIX file?

Hi,
Just to answer a few questions.

Yes it will be posted on sourceforge once any bugs are taken care of.

I'll have to get back about the Finnish keyboard drivers.
The right click menu has an xdsl upgrades option. You will find firefox 2gtk2 dowload option there.
Flash 9 is now supported, again look at the xdsl upgrades menu.
opera can be dowloaded using the mydsl tool from the testing repository.

Alsa sound is now supported (xdsl upgrades menu) I'm not sure if this is digital sound but I'm guessing it is.

I'm not sure what specs you would need to run unreal tornament. I'm guessing there would not be enough memory, particularly as you would need to run it under wine.

The 1.6 overscan problem can be fixed by using the xdsl upgrades menu -> xbox 1.6 screen fix.
This is a quick fix for many 1.6's depending what type tv/monitor is being used. It doesn't work for all 1.6's however. You can always cofigure xfree86 or xorg, if you know what your doing (both on the upgrades menu).

You can't exactly update an xdsl loopback install. But you can make a newl frugal install by following the first post on this thread, then make a new loopback install from there.

cheers
Steve.
