Ok no worries.
I've been working on a few bugs here. There is also an updated script fo installing xorg which chechs the disk space and whether it has been installed previously. Only trouble is mplayer is doing some really weird stuff in xorg. It's like I'm radomly pressing controls in playback mode. The other thing is these damn fonts in xfree86 for flashplayer7 etc. The fonts show up fine in xorg but not in xfree86.

Just by luck I found a flash 9 oss driver that works. It's no where near as good as alsa, but I'll included for those who are running a frugal install etc.

thx christian.
When I say it works, It's not brilliant. It has a slight audio/video delay on some sites, and tends to crash firefox when going from one flash video directly to another. But it's just about bareable.

I've solved the problem with the xfree86 fonts and flash 7. Turns out flash much preferes ttf over type1 fonts. So I've ended up bloating Knoppix even more with extra fonts.

I would appreciate it if some testers could test xorg for me. There's a new Knoppix below to play with.
I've fixed as many bugs as I can with the system. Xorg/mplayer seems to be the main one now.

Anyway click below to download

Knoppix download

Just to explain things a bit, The knoppix file above should work with a frugal install of xdsl 5, 6 or 7. Just rename you existing E:/KNOPPIX/KNOPPIX and put the above on in it's place. Then re-start you're xbox. You can do this from xdsl, any other xbox linux dist or linksboks wihtout the need for a pc and ftp.

Cheers
Steve.

once again, i apologies. ive still been getting my PC set-up, ran into quite a few problems from program conflicts but its all done now.

ive installed the new hard drive and copied your update across so im just about to go try it out now. first thing ill test is 'locate' and 'updatedb'. if its not working, ill point you to the packages i used. ill also test out xorg, and try to start working on the 2.6 kernel

UPDATE: im in xorg right now, the installer went without a hitch. it did have a msg at the top stating 'df:invalid option --H" but it didnt effect anything

updatedb now works without any problems.

when i installed Alsa, Xorg did not automatically restart like it should. i also lost use of the keyboard, but im not 100% sure it was because of that. ill have to look into it.

it is just me or does the CPU usage look abit high? the WM shows 100% atm and i only have firefox open. it does seem to be going a bit slow, but i can definately tell its not using 100% of the CPU's resources

hmm, when i look at the DSL system stats (right click > system > system stats), under hardware, it shows that the Xserver is Xfree86, but i know its running xorg by looking at the log files

Hi Scuba.
Thanks again for looking at this stuff.
Yea I forgot about the alsa restart script. I can't find a good xserver restart script for xorg, nothing seems to work. any ideas?

Also I'm also getting the cpu regestering 100% sometimes. There's obviously some kind of bug in torsmo, but there might be some loop going on somewhere too.

I guess there's enough common componenets for the system to mistake xorg for xfree86 (which gives me an idea for the shutdown script).

I noticed that the xorg-dowload script was'nt working when being implimented after being dowloaded, removed, then used again (if this makes any sense). Anyway I've fixed that now with a small edit.

Also I've fixed the xorg mplayer problem. It was just a problem with emelfm. So when you double click on eg. a wmv in emelfm it will load through a tiny xterm window  to mplayer. Everything else I've tryed involving multimedia in xorg works fine.

Have you tryed the new flashplayer tool? Tell me what you think.

I missed this completely  tongue.gif was burning it as an iso to a cdrw and feeling very dumb why the thing won't boot... Will you be still releasing the full iso?

I'll make a new release soon. I've got a few things to do first.
But you only need the Knoppix file, as the other files hav'nt changed since xdlsl0.5, as the kernel is still identicle. Even the readme is the same, as you no longer need the legacy cheat code.

Cheers,
Steve.

sorry i havnt had much time to look at it since yesterday. had a few mates come round.

anyway, i was going to start on the 2.6 kernel last night, i started downloading everything but ended up canceling it because im very close to my ISP's crappy 15Gb cap. as im not the only one to use the connection and i play multiplayer games alot, i thought i better leave it for now. my bill rolls over on the 27th so ill start work on 2.6 then.

i dont think theres a loop causing the 100% cpu usage, my guess would just be a bug causing it to get incorrect readings as like i said, its a bit slower but its not causing any major slow downs. when im compiling a kernel, it uses 100% of the CPU and pretty much kills the system until its finished so it would be very noticeable if it was actually using all those resources. i know theres a terminal command to check the CPU usage but i cant remember it, though that may be of use to compare them.

i havnt tried the flashplayer tool yet, but ill try it on youtube and a few sites that require flashplayer 9 to see how it goes.

ill try to reproduce my keyboard problem too see at what point it died.
