Replacing Xbox Mainboard

The DVD drive won't be any problem, but the harddisk is locked with an unique key and can only be unlocked on the original Xbox were it came from ( as far as i know ).

The only way to unlock the HD is with the right password and that can "only" be obtained when its hooked up to the org MoBo so unless you got the password it would be easier to buy a new HD

If the hard drive was locked with configmagic, then you are saved.
-Make a dos boot disc and put atapwd.exe on it
-Remove your computer hard drives
-Plug your xbox drive in (set to master)
-Boot off the boot disc
-Run atapwd
-Unlock with master password: TEAMASSEMBLY
-Disable the drive (another option in atapwd)

This is how I saved my brand new 120gig drive after I fried my original mobo.
Now, I read somewhere that the manufacturers all have their own default master passwords also, so try Seagate or whatever brandname you have for the master password if you need to.

The drive must be locked for it to work in an unmodded xbox.

A new hard drive should work with any replacement dashboard.  EvolutionX is just seems to be the most common.  There isn't much point in using a bigger drive when your Xbox isn't modded.. I also don't know of any way to replace the drive without the mod, except maybe by figuring out the drive password your xbox uses, and locking the drive through your PC.
