I after my own xbox (which was successful) I attempted to install linux on my friends Xbox.  It booted to the desktop maybe once, then I edited the screen res, network config, and mountings.  When I rebooted to see the fruits of my labor, after linux logged it, it flashed something about unsupported and NVidia...  How could this be when it boots fine on CD and once on HDD?  He's got a 2005 v1.6.
