Which Linux distro is the fastest on the xbox? I want to use firefox and gaim, I don't need samba or ftp, since I use XBMC. I would be nice to have desktop though, and not only a terminal. Any suggestions?
hum,xdsl is fastest i think,sxb stacker-lsf is not far behind,our video mode
is faster we use direct rendring for some thing,and apart from latest firefox1.5
in sxb takes slightly longer first time most apps gaim,gimp,pan,xchat,gftp,gxine
xmms run fast,please note once most apps and are cached and saved with a reboot
most apps run faster.
For even more speed you could still strip sxb-stacker small to 70 80 mb,
by getting rid of abiword gimp and stripping 1 third of xorg,and adding
10 or more small tiny apps instead,i did do this at first but this just did
not seem sxb so to get the balance of speed size and content right,
i left it at 120 mb ok.
Please not sxb-stacker-lsf uses real base and libs not busybox,etc
so it has the latest large apps libs etc as in main stream distro.
you could add any latest apps as module it shoukd work,
So the size 120mb compressed is really 390 mb libs and app,
just that sxb Lsf gives great compression.
Yes sxb new mini done in uclibc and busybox i am testing will be really
fast and tiny,hum,this mini taking ages,example took me ages to compile
an working xdirectfb using xorg full and uclibc compiled, few months
back i compiled firefox.106 uclibc version now firefox version is 1.5 so
i have to go hunting for patches for firefox so to compile in uclibc,so
more time wasted,so nearly every apps has to have a patch to compile
sxb all in uclibc,and as i do other projects i leave this and have to
redo thing again and again,but get there probley be called poorlinux-mini.
