I was reading through the FAQs that you can only flash the 2.3b lite plus once without the programmer. Is that true or once you get the first good flash, can you flash as many times at you want with FLASH-X? <

Everything you have said is correct.

If you do bugger up your first flash, you can also Hot-swap with a working chip and then use something like FlashX to flash from the disc/hd onto your buggered chip. <

You have 2 banks so you can mess up one flash (assuming you're using a 512k bios) and still have a chance of getting it to work. <

If I do get it working with the first flash, can I update the BIOS later (meaning weeks or months later) with EVOX or Flash-x or do I have to buy the programmer?

You can update it with EvoX. FlashX I think is another BIOS (if I'm not mistaken). <

You are misstaken. FlashX is a utility to flash your chip (a good one actually). And to answer your question, you can flash it up to 101 times. On the 102 time the xbox explodes.
