Slackware Livecd For Xbox
« Reply #15 on: March 08, 2005, 10:22:00 PM »

bollywood's README is currently up at .:sXb:. site

I will post the ISO and an MD5 after I test it on my NTSC xbox to make sure the image is OK after the long upload.  I will RAR it up if it compresses well before I redistribute it.

Thanks guys!  Currently 242MB of the image has been uploaded.  I am unsure how big it is.

Definately looks good since the ISO does not appear to have been corrupted during upload as it extracts and inflates fine on my machine.

Like I posted earlier, I will test it out tonite and release soon!

Make sure to check the site and this thread often for the latest news.

Ok I downloaded it, burnt it to disk and it runs slow on my xbox, reminds of of dynabolic in speed terms. I hav not had time to check it out fully but on first examination it looks ok but like i said is slow 2 mins and 30 secs to load mozilla as an example. You also definately need an installer like the one xebian so people can choose to install on E: F: or whole HD. The average person would be comfortable tinkering with making linux partitions and most people use the free space on upgraded HD's to store games. Dont get me wrong I like what you have done with slak but I dont feel its the way to go. Take a look at the dam small linux thread and the dam small linux website. dsl would be a much better alternative. But its just my opinion, not everyone will agree and thats cool.

huh.gif

LOL anyway it was up with the wrong links for the purpose of ED (from Ed's Debian fame) to test it.

Anyway, since the damage has been done I will correct the links on my site and the community can test it now.

I've been really busy with college and haven't been able to do much testing.  But it seems bollywood has included a config file that will work if you FTP the distro to your hard drive.  Can't test from my job though...

NTSC works.

Any questions shoot me an email at [email protected] or [email protected]

THANKS

##   keck*s etc.tar.gz for sXb 1.00 README   ##

OK, I've finally got the chance to start looking at sXb.  Now, I am not anywhere near being an even mediocre linux d00d.  But I took the liberty to make a few adjustments to this great distro:

CHANGED:
-US QWERTY keymap in console
-sshd starts on boot now (bollywood must've forgotten to make the script executable)
-made the rc.sendmail script non-executable because we don't need it
-changed the xorg.conf so the keymap is en_US

INSTALLATION:
If you haven't installed sXb 1.00 yet grab the ISO, extract it, and FTP all of the files in either /E/ or /F/ (or yes you can use it as a LIVE-CD)
Then browse to /E/packs on the Xbox and replace the etc.tar.gz with my etc.tar.gz-keck.  Make sure to rename etc.tar.gz-keck to etc.tar.gz after transfer.

BOOT:
Boot the default.xbe and away you go!  You can now SSH in with:
user: root
pass: sxbox

Type startx to be taken to JWM with the nice sXb logo background!

HUGE THANKS TO BOLLYWOOD (the creator)!  WHAT A GREAT GUY.
Expect more improvements soon!  Any questions?  Email [email protected]

So what are you waiting for???  Grab the changed etc.tar.gz-keck from http://sxb.keckstar.com

BTW: xromwell.xbe works with sXb smile.gif so there's a solution to the large default.xbe problem bollywood

HAVE FUN
