hey, i have a copy of Dybolic and i am just bout to put in a USB reciever into my xbox so i can work it, but i was wondering what gentoox can do more or better than dybolic?

P.S. i still have a stock hard drive because i dont really put to much xbox games on my hd but i do have a lot of apps and homebrew games (no room for gentoox)

is gentoox worth spending the 100$ for a new hdd just for gentoox?

Hmmm.... well, I have both gentoox and dynebolic on my Xbox. Personally, I prefer Gentoox because it seems to be better for general usage (AIM, web browser, etc.), and for advanced stuff (servers and whatnot). The only big advantage I think dynebolic has is that it takes up much less space than gentoox. I loaded up firefox on gentoox and it runs fairly well (although I can't really see much because of the overscan, I have 1.6 Xbox) while Dynebolic ran firefox much slower. Plus I think Gentoox comes with more apps, but I"m not sure.

Even though Gentoox is a great distro, It's not worth the $100 for a new HDD. Hell, no one program is worth the $100 for a new HDD. But if you feel that you could use that space, then go ahead and get it. I just wouldn't buy a HDD for Gentoox only though...

Gentoox will only run from the harddrive. Xebian (which IMO isn't as good as gentoox for basic stuff, but is still a good distro) can be run from disc.

As far as doing other stuff with dynebolic, I know it comes with firefox for web browsing (which ran really slow for me), but I don't know about gaim or any other instant messengers.

Install game into a folder like say E:\apps\gaim then open it through linux? is that what you mean?

No, you have to install gaim (not game) in linux. You can't install it as an xbox app.

For Xebian, just do apt -get gaim (or apt-get gaim, I'm not too sure since I haven't used Xebian in a long time)
