im installing linux hopeing that i can play some linux games, as well as windows games. My first question is can i install games like starcraft or diablo in linux and play them, i have gentoox and im gunna install it tonight, but someone told me that geenox doesn't have 3d acceleration, and cant play games. im wondering first if its possible to install windows games and play them under linux, or even if there is any linux distros that will support 3d accelleration under the xbox. i know there is a way to install win98 under linux, so im thinking that i might have to go that route if i cant play windows games under linux. Im a total newb so someone pleez help me out, thnx guys for support.

Using Bochs to run Win98 is very slow, I'm trying to run it using Plex86 but having trouble. You could use VMWare but all this will decrease performance.
You should just stick to a PC with Windows Games.

yea i guess ur right, but pm me or something if u can get win 98 to work, i wish someone could think of a good way to run windows on the box,, u think u would be able to run windows if u can run linux.

I'm running Win98 on it now as i type this lol, But as Bochs Emulates the CPU it's very slow, But now i have the Img of it i will try to get it working in plex86. But even then i dought it will be fast enought to run games.

Its not linux or windows that is the issue here...its the lack of any open source 3d drivers,that will do fast 3d acceleration(there are some open-source 3d drivers but they are slow and I don't think anyone has bothered to port one yet)....and I doubt nvidia would bother do a port for this.The xbox is also lacking in processor power and in memory,so unless you have both the1.4ghz mod and the 128 meg upgrade(both very difficult/costly mods for most users) as well as decent 3d drivers,most 3d games are going to run like shit.There's plenty of older dos and 2d based games that will work fine though,dosemu under linux is apparently much faster than the dosbox port for xbox and there are plenty of 2d games/emulators that could be run natively or under wine.Take a look at www.happypenguin.org for linux games,many of them will be 3d and therefore unplayable,but there are plenty that are not.

but all ide like to do is run starcraft which can be run under a pc with 120 mhz and 16m of ram, so i cant see the xbox having a hard time running it, but is it possible to install starcraft??

I just installed starcraft expansion on my xbox las night. Works real good, except for the fact there's no sound. I guess sound isn't ABSOLUTELY necessary, but it'd be nice!

If I knew why it didn't work, i'd DEFINITELY fix it! As of right now, I dont know why. I was hoping maybe someone else that got starcraft sound workin can point me in the right direction?

make sure u post it in this post when u figure it out because as soon as i get linux workin im going streight for startcraft... exept that stupid network intinializion is holding me off it always freezes durning linux setup
