this is from the xbox linux site, if it has an nVidia GeForce 3 graphics card, why cant the geforce 3 linux drivers be used for 3d accelerated graphics?

The binary-only network driver for the NVIDIA nForce card, which you can download from the NVIDIA web site, works on the Xbox without any modification

nvdrv is the open-source driver for NVIDIA graphics hardware, which does not support 3-D acceleration. Efforts are underway to patch the binary-only, 3-D-aware XFree driver available from NVIDIA.
sorry about that guess i should have read everything

I don't understand. I can get hardware acceleration for my RedHat 9 box (playing Tux Racer at 9000000 fps), but it won't work for gentoox?

redhat box is anoher way of saying pc lol.

thers no 3d acell drivers for the xbox couse the nivida chip has no bios on it they they need to play a gessing game to feed the right drivers into it. there only as far as 2d acell right now. riva drivers.

stuff built on the xdk has 3d acell couse the drivers are compiled into the program. but being linux doesent use the xdk nor can they simply steal it that would be using m$ coding. and m$ would happy sue them out of extence.

if the chip had video bios it wouldent have been a problem using a standerd pc driver on xbox linux but there isnt.

of course you can cheat in a sence using dyne:bolic with the openmosix kernel or mod your corrent distro with openmosix and combine your pc resources into the xbox and use the pcs 3d card hehe. or even give ya linux pc a boost.

i asked shallax to put openmoxic into gentoox but he said he couldent get it working so maybe he will add it later.

The GPU isn't a geforce3 really.  Remember the Geforce2 built into the N-force chipset?  it's not the same as a gf2 AGP card.  Just like the "Geforce3" in the xbox isn't like the gf3 AGP cards, except it's never been released to the public, and no open driver exists for it.

hmm i read the part on the website about how they still need to create a 3d driver from one of the nvidia drivers... i wish this was alot easier cuz id like to play some games in linux...  o well im sure itll get done.  when you install the nvidia drivers it compiles it during the install (or at least says compiling kernel module). if it does indeed compile the drivers, mayb theres a way to extract the source code to it, then create a specific driver for the graphics card. dry.gif
