Can I Mod A Box That's Hdd Is Timing Out?
« on: January 19, 2004, 09:15:00 AM »

A friend of mines xbox (unmodded) recently started giving him the error code 7 (HDD timeout). He was going to just buy a new one when I suggested that he mod the xbox instead. I figure that I would put a bigger harddrive in anyways. What I want to know is: Is this possible and how? He doesn't care about losing his save game files or whatever. I have modded my xbox already and so I also have my old HDD and a copy of what was on my old HDD before it was modded on my comp if either of these help at all.

any help would be greatly appreciated

Well, make sure all his IDE cables are slotted in snug and tight. If that doesn't work you can put his hard drive in your Xbox (must be unlocked) and see if it works in there, then if it don't work in your Xbox then get him a new hard drive, you would obviously have to mod it if you want to do this to keep it all simple :P.

he is going to get a new harddrive anyways so i don't care about saving the old harddrive. Don't I have to the "eeprom.bin" file from his original HDD so that i can lock the new big HDD? I did this for my xbox but that was a while ago. I'm confused.
