Vmware On Gentoox
« on: August 27, 2003, 04:06:00 AM »

running gentoox professional,  emerged vmware workstation 4.0.1 successfully.

entered a retail serial number, it accepted it

created a new virtual machine, and it says system memory is 56mb, and it will only allow 4 mb for guest OS (of course I cant install much besides DOS on that)

yet the host os gentoox has a couple hundred megs of virtual memory (swap) available..

I run vmware gsx server on my gentoo file server pc, and it allows virtual machines to show all 256 mb of my physical pc ram to the guest operating system, it uses the hosts swapping to take care of that

is it because the emerged vmware is crippled somehow despite entered reg key, or is it a limitation of the workstation version (must run guest OS's strictly in free physical ram and not swapspace?)

also as a side note, when ever i did full screen mode the display would be all messed up (i was running at 640x480 both natively in gentoox pro and in the virtual machine -- win98). anyone know how to solve this issue?
