Dns Problems With Sharing A Dialup Win2k Ic
« on: July 29, 2003, 09:17:00 PM »

Hey all,

Got Debian installed fine (Using 0.3.1 iso) and did an apt-get update etc.  All networking is going perfectly when my Windows box is connected to the Internet.  However, when I disconnect my dialup connection, I have a few problems with what I presume is DNS issues.  SSH connections for instance will take a long time - the debugged output from sshd shows it's trying to resolve 192.168.0.1 - the IP of the Windows machine.
Also, X-Win sessions don't go through at all unless I'm online on the Windows Box.

Is there a simple fix for this?  I presume adding a line to hosts with the IP of the Windows box may help - will certainly try it out tonight.  Another possible option is configuring Linux to use DHCP - dunno if this will help any though.  (Windows ICS has a DHCP server in it by default).

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated - I can post logs etc. if need be :)

TIA
