Vfd Display On Smartxx
« on: November 30, 2005, 11:40:00 PM »

HI

I trying to wire 16x2 samsung vfd display comes with htpc case ahanix. This vfd is compatible with lcd and should be working with smartxx. I connected d4-d7 , E , RS smartxx to d4-d7 ; E , RS vfd power comes from the molex conector. VFD works about 10 sec then i get random characters and 5 sec later everything desapires then i have to reset to get it work. I wonder if i need to connect R/W now it´s just grounded.

Thanks

Vfd Display On Smartxx

Sorry for bumping this post way up, but I'm very curious if people have already fired up VFD displays, like the one in this Ahanix pc-case:

This would make an elegant XBMC dedicated home entertainment system! All we need now are some wireless   controllers and a way to hide our IR from the DVD playback kit.
Since there are lots and lots of topics  about connecting a LCD to your Xbox, but not very many that are dealing with the same subject, but with a VFD display instead of a LCD, I would like to know: are there people with working VFD's around? Which modchip did you use?

The productspecefication of the Ahanix case states that the type of VFD is:    2x16 character Samsung VFD / Parallel Port Connector. This should do the trick, right?

//off topic: I have some sort of cheapmod soldered into my Xbox. Is it possible to remove this mod, and upgrade to, let's say, an Xecutor or SmartXX chip to enable LCD/VFD use?
