I originally posted this in the hardware/modding forum, was told it was the wrong place, waited for some mod to move it but that never happened so I'm reposting it.

I've just bought a SmartXX (I think it's v2.0. There is no sticker on the back side that looks like this, which I've seen on pics of the 1.0: http://www.xbox-scene.com/imageserver4/smartxx/xs03.jpg
How do I check for sure which version it is?
I've checked my Xbox version, and it's a 1.0 (Made in Hungary) according to the serial number test on the XBox Scene testing page.
Now, I'll get soldering tools tomorrow or something (don't have any now), but can you guys tell me exactly, step by step, what I need to do?
I wanna install it, make it work so I can watch my "backed up" DVDs, and play my backup of Quantum Redshift (the original disk got scratched up)?
And does this thing need flashing, because I haven't bought one of those flashing thingies.
Also, I have an old 80GB hard drive with Ext3FS on it (Gentoo Linux). How do I install it?

I have an Xbox 1.0.
But there's no info on how I can see which SmartXX version I have, or do I have to flash it or not?
And how do I install a hard disk? I got a 80GB one with Ext3FS on it.

Yes you have to flash it. Use Remote Flasher. V5.0 is out. Your chip is a version 2.
