Quick Question.....
« on: November 06, 2005, 10:36:00 PM »

I have a SmartXX v2 chip I am going to install. I have a choice between 2 xbox versions to use. A v1.1 or v1.6. Does it make any difference? I am not too sure the differences between the versions.

I have already modded a v1.0 with an aladdin advance. Just curious which version you guys would pick, or if it even matters. Thanks!!

The 1.1 will be easier to install on as on the 1.6/1.6b you'll have to rebuild the lpc either using the rebuild pcb that comes with the smartxx v2, or wires (what I prefer)
You'll also have to get a bios that's compatible with the xbox you choose to mod.

1.0-1.5

X2 5035 (x2_5035_vOld_512k)
X2 4981 (configurable via XBTool)
X2 4983 (not configurable via XBTool)

1.6

X2 5035 (x2_5035_v16plus_512k)
M8_16 (configurable via EVTool)

hope this helps.

when you say you have a choice I am assuming you have two Xboxes.

Avoid the 1.6 if possible they are much harder if you are a newbie to the soldering iron.

If you really wanna avoid soldering you can pick up a solderless adapter for pretty cheap.

Meh... I soldered my SmartXX 2 onto a 1.6... First time solderer and it worked first time and still works. Of course it could have been beginners luck...

I would have done it solderless, but my mobo had the green lacquer in the holes so I had to solder.

Go solderless if you're scared about it.

And you can't just randomly pick what version your Xbox is depending on which one you want it to be! Use the XS Version-check instructions on the tutorial pages.

If you have a 1.1 and 1.6, solder the 1.1 first. It will be easier.
