ScanC not running debian he running Mandrake last I recall talk to him.  Lets face the faq we need our F Drive so Mandrake is no good.  Debian right now suxs, because the new version for the xbox now has video problems with NTSC Machines.  What we really need a new bios that supports pc software.  Everyone talks about new drivers, but lets get a new bios finished first.

Ok, I have a p4 2.4ghz, and win 98 wont run on that.   Oh shit, I didn't mean processor, I meant hard drive.  Really, win 98 only does FAT32 or something gay like that.  Trust me, I have  a 40gig hard drive and win 98 wont run on it.  Unless you partition it into several small pieces.  Listen I'm not trying to crush your guy's dreams, in fact I totally support putting windows on XBOX, I am just trying to help find out the problems before you guys try it.

BTW, I dont work at best-buy, I'm a 13 yr. old Flash Developer, and Web Designer.  I know this because I built my own computer

WTF? WIndows 98 Supports atleast upto and over 80GB. WIth no partitions..... thats what my parents PC was running. A Western Digital 80gb 2mb Cache.... its not on there anymore, but FAT32 goes upto 80gb. Atleast it did for me...

Christ, i format alot of my 40gig drives and 60gig drives using MS DOS. Thats fat16.... and i didnt need to put a partition in biggrin.gif Although i do anyways... it helps me to organise my data

I've personally set up a computer that had a 160GB HDD and Win98 on it. Windows 98 had no problems with it, but the onboard HDD controller didn't recognize over 137GB. That's because the controller wasn't 48Bit LBA, so I had to go out and buy a PCI HDD controller. Anyway, it also had a 1GHz P3.

I say just give M$ some time, and we will see a port of there own windows xpo media center o/s on the xbox. After all, that is gates desire, to have you get all your infomation thru him.

The system is already designed for this, its all there.. I would puit money on it that this is a further stage of the total design life for the xbox.

Look at the lbc connectors, how they havent totally made chips worthless, as it would also then hinder or setback there own in house devolpment of the future of the box...

Theres gotta be a way to have Windows 98, or XP through Xbox Linux so we can run AIM, games, kazaa, and different sorts like that!! I know theres ram issues, but its also possible to add ram. Windows XP might not be possible, but I KNOW 98 doesent take to much ram. So can't we join together and find out how to do this? I was one told the xbox has no limitations, so lets make that statement correct! smile.gif Anyways, post ways you think it might be possible. Thanks.  jester.gif

what on earth would make you think that there has "got" to be a way?

haven you read a single thing about this?

obviously not...

First off! It is possible to install and run windows on the XBOX since it already runs off of a stripped down windows 2000 kernal. M$ has always used techknowledgy that they already had on hand for the XBOX rather then spending the money on developing a new machine from scratch. This is why you have a PC that plays games rather then a machine dedicated to playing games only. The problem is that you would have to write a bios that can run a fat32 or NTFS OS. Linux can be easily compiled to run from the standard .XBE file extention and as such doesn't require a special BIOS like the one that your computer uses. Your computer's bios looks for a master boot record among other things to facilitate several differant operating systems. I mentioned the MBR because if a bios could read from a master boot record rather then just loading the bios and searching for the correct .XBE then it would be possible to have windows run but then say goodbye to all your XBOX games. A mod chip with atleast two banks might be able to do both but that would be a trial and error deal. The second issue is the xbox uses all five partitions for one thing or another so you might run into problems since windows must be on the first partion in order to run. Windows uses all generic drivers in case there is no driver for such things as video and chip sets. Since M$ decided to use things that are already in circulation the video and sound chips in the XBOX can be found by simply looking for the drivers for the chip that you are using. You can have a hard drive with multiple file systems installed. I have a 160 gig HDD with 1gig in fat, 1gig in fat16, 20gig in fat32 and the rest in NTFS. I use system commander to have several different operating systems so that I can develop my understanding of the proccess. The XBOX is a PC and that is why it has been so exploited over the years.  biggrin.gif
