2 Simple Linux Questions

1) If I choose to install Linux and keep my F: Drive using the tutorials, how much HD space does it use up?

2) The SSH method, as one tutorial describes, is NOT the same as a FTP session where I am sending commands, correct?

Well, my idea is to have my 120 GIG for games and homebrewed software, and have my spare 8 GIG for Linux. I was just curious. But, would the 8 GIG be fine for Linux?
