That probably means that your xbox can't connect to the internet, you may need to setup your router or dns settings on the linux box.  Try pinging some remote machines from it.  Incidently, if you don't have a mouse and keyboard attached to the xbox, don't install x windows, or you will not be able to do anything at all.
