Ok I got a fresh 80gb hd i want to install in my xbox but i dont have a modchips. do I just create as factory xbox image or what. or use ndure to set this up If there is a tutorial could someone link me to it Ive been looking. Im lost, my factory 8gb gave out error 21 and I can get it to hotswap for nothing so Im just wanting to stick this 80 gig in it. I lost my eeprom so I cant unlock the 8gb i tried the master key (WDCWDCWDCWDC ect.) it didnt work for the drive so how do i go about installing this 80 without eeprom I did the 8gb without eeprom in the first place, and do I have to lock the HD? I dont want to lock it incase it dosent work in the xbox then I got another brick . Please help guys this is my neices xbox. I messed up yesterday just transfering the newest unleash x over to it. Everything transfered fine tried reboot and error 21. Im tired of trying to hotswap I think Ive tried every method Ive been at this for about 10 hours I just say put the 80 gig out of my old pc in there. This is a fresh 80gb hd not new though. If you don't have the eeprom you can't install a new drive on a softmod. Softmod Xbox hard drives have to be locked using the eeprom or the Xbox won't boot.

You have to build an eeprom reader, or fit a chip.

I installed the 8gb without eeprom using a similar tutorial to this tutorial here http://www.XS Filter...orials-271.html but i just unpluged the xbox dvd power supply gave me error 12 i think did hot swap and resored to factory original 5960 dash. then i used the How to Softmod Your Xbox Using XboxHDM (Ndure) totorial the problem now is when I unplug the dvd power supply it dosent give me the error 12 which i thought it should because it reads it first but i get error 7 or 21 just depends on which dvd drive I have installed at the time. I have a  thompson that dosent work gives me error 21 when I power up when I use my samsung it gives me error 7  which it use to give me error 12 its driving me crazy I have a eeprom bin but i dont think its for this xbox becase when I tried to unlock the drive with ATWAD? program it dosent work. But I must have the eeprom if your saying it cant be done without it. Because it was just softmoded last night like i said i did it with this - How to Softmod Your Xbox Using XboxHDM (Ndure)link to how I did it Man this is crazy. I got an old alladin advance v2 I think? modchip but it been put up for so long I got it from a friend maybe I will have to pull that out and see if it works probably not, Ive never used it before I dont even know if it has all the peices. but if you could explain how I might have modded this without the eeprom before I just did it last week. Thast was why i did it because my neice brought it to me and it was getting error 21 or 16. but I sure did get it modded.
I got 1 eeprom file i found so far but maybe it got another on somewhere else. Im lost man. Thanks for the reply and any other help would be very much appreciated.

You can softmod a working Xbox with a working disk by hotswapping. You can't softmod a broken disk or install a new disk by hotswapping.

If you can't hotswap the original disk to repair the softmod then you need the eeprom to build a new disk. If you don't have the eeprom then you need to build an eeprom reader, or fit a chip.

I dont need to unlock the 80gb its already unlocked just had it in old computer that I dont use anymore. can I use the 80gb to do the the restore xbox to original 5960 like i did the 8gb then do the nudure mode the only reson i ask is because the 80 gig is unlocked and another question how did i do the softmod the 8gb without eeprom ? so I must have it right?  Or is it possibly on one of my disk Ive created so many? I will have to look around also and when you use AWAPT? disk unlocker how do you know if the letters are (o) or 0 zero because the one eeprom bin i have you cant really tell when i run LiveInfo_Beta_3-Xbox_v1.6-Yoshihiro. One more question what is this pixel8-blank_serial_eeprom.bin, and thanks for all the help man Im a long time member just forgot my old pass and login so Ive been around for awhile just havent had to mod anything lately. My 1.6 with 500gb runs fine but i may need to upgrade to 1tb soon.
and the master pass  wdcwdcwdcwdcwdcwdc dont work for my drive? any tips I heard its supose to work

IF YOU DON'T HAVE THE EEPROM YOU CAN'T LOCK THE 80G DISK.

You softmodded the original disk by HOTSWAPPING!

It doesn't matter how many times you post, the answer won't change. Build an eeprom reader, or fit a chip.

No, you unlock the 8GB disk with with xboxhdm and your eeprom.

Man I cant unlock this 8gb hdd for shit its got me to the point Im about to throw it down the street. it keeps saying cant find /dev/hda or master primary drive.  what is the best setup on the ide cables? I got cdrom on slave xbox on master same cable. then when i try to unlock with the bin i found it says can find eeprom bin. This is carzy it should be the right bin since everything matches serial ect. right ? does eeprom.bin or hddkey.bin have to be case sesitive?
because mine is all uppercase. thanks again for the help.

CD drive as secondary master (i.e. on the second IDE cable), Xbox drive connected to the primary IDE cable. Then follow the instructions in my signature - softmod with eeprom.

EDIT: And eeprom.bin has to be in lower case.

Yes, it sounds as though the 8GB disk is dead, and you now need to use xboxhdm and the eeprom to build and lock the new 80 GB disk. See the link in my signature - "Build a new softmod disk with eeprom".

A couple other questions if you have time.

My other xbox500GB runs fine its a v5 or 6 I will have to look, But do you think It would be a good idea to tsop flash that just so I dont run into problems in the future, cant I just download the exploit splinter cell or mech assault run the game from my hdd and go to saves and do the tsop flash process on the softmoded xbox.  Im not good at soldering but when I flashed other xboxes before I used this stuff I bought at autozone to repair the wires on window defrosters (the lines/wires across the window) for cars and it worked fine you probably know what Im talking about I forget what its called. I think theres a tutorial here at xbox-scene I used.

I got an aladdin advance modchip im not to sure what it is it already has 2 wires soldered to it ones soldered to DO and the other is soldered to BT (I think I think it says BT.)

I probably screwed that dive up by trying to hotswap so many times because I couldnt find the eeprom.bin until it was to late. and I was using the UPPER CASE EEPROM.BIN I didnt know it was case sesitive.

Once again man thanks for all the help I really do appreciate it. you've been a big help. Since the link is not in you sig could you link me to the best way to build an 80GB with xbhdm. I dont have to put the original dash then boot xbox then go back and do softmod do I,  I can do the 80GB It all at once right sofmod and all just hook up and bam softmoded again.

What is the best softmod installer in your opinion? I used NDURE 3.1 for pc last time. It seemed pretty easy.
