What's A Linux Guy To Do?
« on: October 19, 2010, 06:11:00 PM »

It appears that you need a Windows PC to run any of the software (such as Action Replay/ GameShark) required to transfer the exploits to the memory card. This is a little bit of a road-block, as I'm running Ubuntu 10.10.
I was wondering if there are any alternative methods to get the installer on the memory card/ xbox from Ubuntu?

[My first instinct was to transfer the installer from my computer to my already modded xbox, put it on the memory card (from the xbox), and finally copy it to the (un-modded) xbox. That didn't work at all, which didn't really surprise me... It said something like 'corrupted gamesave']

Your method is fine, but you need to unpack the gamesaves first.

Get hold of the Krayzie 1.1.1 gamesave softmod installer. After unpacking, for Splinter Cell there are two folders - 5553000c and 21585554, and you need them both. For MA and 007:AUF there's one folder each - 4d530017 for MA and 4541000d for 007:AUF.

FTP the folder(s) you need for your game to a temporary location your modded Xbox - it doesn't matter where you put them. Use your modded Xbox dash file manager to copy the numbered folders to the root of your memory card, then use the MS Dash on the unmodded Xbox to copy them to your Xbox. Run the game, follow the Krayzie instructions to load the gamesave, backup your eeprom, then select Basic Install - UnleashX dashboard.

Well, I got the game saves on my xbox and it even showed 'Run Linux' in Mech Assault but when I selected it, it gave me an error like 'UNABLE TO LOAD "RUN LINUX"'...

I got the right game save (4d530017; the one for Mech Assault) as well as the main installer on my memory card... What could I be doing wrong?

(Note: I'm using the original copy of Mech Assault... NOT the platinum hits one.)
