If you are hotswapping then it's hotswapping that unlocks the disk.

If you are using the eeprom then you put eeprom.bin on the xboxhdm disc and use unlockhd -a to unlock the disk.

You don't need the eeprom if you're hotswapping!

The only way to get the eeprom from an unmodded Xbox is to use an eeprom reader.

so in a ndure 3.1 install to a virgin v1.4 xbox, when I get to the xboxhdm phase, I will have to use xboxhdm to unlock the HDD, then LASTLY relock it?  which will require a password?

I have read that if i retrieve the eeprom, i can get the password out of it.  But how do I get the eeprom out of an unmodded box?

Or is it incorrect that I will need to relock the HDD with a password?

Safest way to get the eeprom is to softmod your Xbox. You will need the following Splinter Cell exploit files, Xbox Action Relay, and Splinter Cell game. After this your Xbox is completely modded to play back up games, music, videos.
