And dont listen to knightfall, my maxtor runs quite cool and that was before i even added the fan, and i use it for some pretty heavy gaming too.

For what it's worth, I opted for the Samsung 120GB 5400RPM.  Super quiet and cool.  If I needed large backup storage for a PC and speed wasn't a major concern I wouldn't hesitate to use these.  I think that for the xbox this drive is about as close to ideal as you can get.

I agree fully.  I actually have 2 running nothing but file storage, keeping my mp3's and divx's at the ready to enjoy through XBMP.

I posted details of various drives a while back, you'll find them here.

The Samsung drives draw less power than the rest, so they should run cooler.
The RPM of the drive isn't the only factor when it comes to drive performance, as you'll see from the figures.

I fitted a Maxtor DiamondMax 16 in mine, but I now install Samsungs when people ask for a bigger drive.  Two more should be arriving tomorrow!
