Trim Partitions After Softmodding ?
« on: September 13, 2009, 01:47:00 AM »

Greets to all. I was able to get my Avalaunch softmod installed nicely and have tried several emulators with success  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

My main purpose was to build an emulation machine, solely for emulators and roms so I was thinking that 10 GB would be enough for that, but am now feeling a little squeezed on space.

Without upgrading to a bigger drive, is it possible to delete some partitions or trim their sizes ?

According to File Manager in Avalaunch:

My C has 260 mb
My D is 0
My E is 1219 mb
My F is disabled via Avalaunch
My G is disabled via Avalaunch
My X is 627
My Y is 749
My Z is 749

According to Xpartioner:

Standard Partition 1 is 4882 mb
Standard Partition 2 is 500 mb
Standard Partition 3 is 750 mb
Standard Partition 4 is 750 mb
Standard Partition 5 is 750 mb

Thanks in advance   (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Ok... I just learned a little more about the Xbox partitions and what they are used for, so I am guessing trimmng or resizing is not an option.... unless I up to a bigger HDD for a F drive

Partition 3:   X   /   750mb in size
Partition 4:   Y   /   750mb in size
Partition 5:   Z   /   750mb in size

*  All used exclusively for caching.
*  Data placed on this partition is prone to deletion at any time. For this reason, some dashboards hide it.

partition 5:   C   /   750mb
partition 6:   E   /   4.75GB

Partition 6:   F    is

*  optional, and are not defined on an unmodified hard drive from a stock system.
*  stock systems with a Seagate drive have enough extra space to allow for a F: of roughly ~2gb in size.
*  Size is user defined.
*  Can only be accessed via a modded system and must be manually formatted.
*  The console itself does not use this partition, and so users typically store games/videos/music/etc on it.

You pretty much described the way things are on the xbox 1.

So, the best thing to do is installing a larger disk.

All the extra space above 8 gig can be the F or F + G partition and can be used to store media and games.

A game needs between 1 and 4 gig. Media depends upon it's type.
A movie compressed to divx usually also takes between 1 and 2 gig. It's possible to stream media from another source. (A pc or a NAS drive.)

regards.

You can use the X:Y:Z: drives, but no guarantees if you insert a game disc. It shouldn't be too big of a problem, though, as it's emu only.

Well I toughed up and scrounged a 40 GB hard drive

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)  but I am sure glad I did... great for systems with crappy DVD drives (seems to be common problem)
