Softmodded With Hotswap And Ndure, Please Help
« on: March 16, 2009, 11:43:00 AM »

Im going crazy about this now, i cant stop trying to fix the softmod of my xbox.
I have read a lot of guides and stuff but all the things that seems to have worked out for others dont work out for me.

Well, my version is
K.1.00.5838.01
D 1.00.5960.01

I downloaded xboxhdm 1.9, did everything i was told to, made an linus iso, succesfully hotswaped.
no errors, all fine.
booting xbox, copying blank playlist to "Eggsbox", some kind of "thank you" screen showed up and shortly after i had a black screen with a text something like "all the required resources can not be loaded, this is normally because of lack of HD space on E: or Y: (i think it was), try ftping to resolve it"

Well, when FTPing it seems like I have only read only access to the C drive, and I didnt know what to remove.
Tryied different ways to re-soft-mod the xbox, with original ms dash files, as well as dash files from the slayers disc. Still not working. I get up "error 21", or "xbox cant read this disc", or the "lack of harddrive space" depending on wich files im using to softmod it.

And, the strange thing; i have read a lot on the internet, when other people got their dashes screwed up it seems like the still can play original games on it, well i cant! i can only play audio CD's.

Please help me someone!

By the way, I dont have a backed up eeprom. But as the HD is readable both in xbox and in the pc i guess i could solve this problem without it..?

This post should get you working. Don't select any options in Kingroach NDURE 3.1 apart from the default ones and your kernel (5838).

Thanks!
Im just wondering about
"build your xboxhdm disk using the stock C from Slayers / AID, and Kingroach NDURE 3.1"

I have downloaded the "Slayers Evox 2.7 FINAL" iso, when browsing it i should extract the system\all\c into the
xboxhdm\linux\ndure\c folder, and than run the make iso win file, is that correct?

If I'd meant that then I'd have typed that!!!!

Do what the post says - stock C in linux/C, the Kingroach 3.1 C files in linux/ndure/C/, and the Kingroach 3.1 E files in linux/ndure/E/.

Im very thankful for your help, but im sorry to ask you stupid question, i dont understand what you mean by "stock".
My slayers disc is just an iso, and therefore i will have to extract the C folder from it, right?

Yes. Use Qwix to extract the files from Slayers system\all\c, and put them in linux/C/ (not linux/ndure/C/).

Alright.. I did exactly that. Everything went on fine thru the installation.
When booting with original gamedisc the the xbox i just get the screen again about the lack of HD space, and when booting with the ejectbutton i get into the dash, and there is a blank soundtrack, but when copying in to Eggsbox (yes i spelled it right with the german ss letter) i just get the message that i have reached the maximum number of soundtracks and therefore cant add any more..

You've lost me.

You built the new xboxhdm iso, hotswapped, and rebuilt the disk according to the instructions in the post I linked to. If you built the Kingroach files properly, and followed the instructions exactly, then when you put the disk back in your Xbox and reboot your Xbox is modded - no need for soundtracks or anything like that.

What exactly did you do?

I dont have any mod chip, and therefore i guess i have to go thru the soundtrack menu?

By the way, when Im finished with ndure in xbrowser and i have closed it, i just shut off the computer, shut off the xbox, then unplug the IDE cable and replug it to the xbox.
When booting with power on button i just get the screen about that it cant load all the required resources and that its normally because a lack of hd space on E. At this point i can connect to the xbox with ftp but not read the contence of the C folder, only the E and with read only.
When I boot it with eject button i only get into the dash, i can play audio cd's and see the settings menu.. thats all. When trying to start a game (original disc) i get back to the screen again that required resources can not be started because of lack of hd space.

Well the harddrive also starts spinning at maximum rpm when entering the screen about lack of hd space.. it didnt do that earlier..

Try cold booting with Slayers then ftp to the Xbox. If you can get access use ftp to delete the contents of X, Y and Z, and E:\cache\.

.... and you don't need the soundtrack menu!

I dont have any contens in none of the X , Y or Z, and I dont have any folder on E called cache.

But, now i can see the contens of my C drive, i couldnt do that earlier.

in C:\ i have
folders:
Audio
fonts
xboxdashdata.185ead00
xodash
and these files:
Xbox Book.xtf
Xbox.xtf
xboxdash.xbe

in E:\ I have the folders;

apps
backup
dash
ndts
TDATA

and the file boot1.bin

In D:\ these folders:
alocale
data
and these files:
config.dat
dashupdate.xbe
default.xbe
update.zbe

X, Y, Z are all empty.

Delete the contents of the backup from E, in case it is a space problem on E.

If that doesn't work, get hold of a copy of Frosty's Rescue disc, cold boot with that, and see what is on the real C partition.

I got into the new dash EvolutionX..!

I deleted everything on E before i saw your reply.
But i still cant play original games.

How do I use this dash?
Is there any kind of filebrowser or anyting?

When choosing "launch dvd" it quits the dash and i get error 21.

Kingroach installs UnleashX as its dash, on the E partition..... so I now have no idea what you have done! You clearly didn't follow the instructions I linked to!

If you want a clean softmod, start over again as described in the post I linked to, and follow all of the steps, not just the last three. It's the early steps (Hotswap and run xboxhdm, select option 1 - boot VGA Console, then type xboxhd, then select option 2 - Rebuild C partition on existing Xbox drive) that give you a clean base to start from, and that make the softmod behave properly!
