Newbie With Questions.
« on: March 04, 2009, 05:32:00 PM »

Just softmodded my regular xbox with krayzie's NDURE 1.1 installer, using the MA method.  Cut the plug off of a pelican wired controller, wired on a USB end and used that with the Action Replay software to get the savegame exploit on to my MadCatz 8mb memory card.  Everything worked flawlessly, my xbox is on and idling at the unleashx main screen.

My questions are...

-Is there a newer version of the NDURE software, and if so...how do I upgrade?

-Would it be a wise decision to upgrade to XBMC?  Does it let me change all the stuff I can change in UnleashX like LED and fan speed?

-Why does there seem to be like 6 partitions when I view my storage info?

-What would be the easiest way to completely remove this softmod?  Basically I want to revert back to a completely virgin xbox, so I can upgrade to a 140GB HDD...then re-install the softmod on the new HDD.  The other way, keeping the softmod, seems way too complicated for me to want to mess with.

-How do I remove a game I ripped to the HDD?  Seems like I can only view the 1 game, and press A to play it.  It's MechAssault, ripped it to test how that worked and don't want it there anymore...gonna wait until the HDD upgrade before I start ripping all my games.

If these are answered through-out the forum, I apologize.  I looked through the stickies somewhat(not every single friggin' page, but close enough), and also checked out some of the links in the tutorial sticky.  I'm basically stuck reading google search results, forum threads and links that are several years old...some fresh/up-to-date files/info/advice would be awesome.

If it matters...I really only plan to rip my large cache of xbox games to HDD, watch my DVDs, watch my backed-up-to-disc copies of DVDs, and play my backed-up-to-disc games.  Won't be doing anything else with this xbox, that's what my PC is for.  Yes, I do legally own all these games and DVDs that have backed-up copies!

Thanks in advance for the help.

-Johnny

Yes. Download it and follow the instructions.

Wise is subjective! I use UnleashX as my dash and XBMC as an app, because UnleashX gives you password protection to deter people from fiddling, whereas XBMC doesn't. XBMC has similar fan control to UnleashX, where you can set a fan speed, or set a temperature and the fan is adjusted to keep the Xbox at that temperature.

Because that's how it was designed! Have a look here. On top of those, D is the DVD, and when you run XBMC Q is a virtual drive that points to the XBMC home directory.

. Don't bother - you achieve nothing by resetting your disk back to stock!! Just use the eeprom from your Xbox, xboxhdm, and the stock c from Slayers or CASH to build the bigger disk, then softmod it. Alternatively, use the eeprom, xboxhdm, the stock C from Slayers / CASH, and Kingroach NDURE 3.1 to softmod the new disk as you build it.

Delete it using file manager!

Wow, couldn't have asked for a better/more thorough reply to my questions.  Thanks!

Anther question that came to mind just now...is there a way to exit back to dashboard if I'm currently in a game?  I've found myself wanting to go back to the dashboard after playing a game, and I keep having to use the power button to shut the system down and then turn it back on.  I vaguely recall one of the softmod how-to guides saying something about a button-combo reset function...just don't know what that button-combo is.

Are there release notes for 1.1 and 1.1.1, so I can see the feature lists and new fixes on the latter version?  I downloaded 1.1.1, and the instructions to update 1.1 on my xbox are kinda foggy to me...so if someone could break the steps down to be a bit more simple, that would rock.  I'm also currently trying to set up a successful FTP using a crossover cable...should be up and running after a reboot.  Apparently my integrated NIC was never installed, MSI didn't package the drivers for it on the motherboard install disc...had to track them down manually via google.  Oh, also can't forget the 6 trips I made today in my quest to find someone that sells a crossover cable...haha.

Thanks again. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Thanks, works great.  Much more convenient than the power button.

Right now I'm trying to do the NDURE update and either it's not working, or I did something wrong...

I connected to my xbox via FlashFXP + crossover cable, in the right hand window I can see the list of partitions on my xbox.  I entered E:\Apps, placed a folder in there called Extras, then placed the file+folder in there for the MA install from the 1.1.1 folder that is currently sitting on my desktop.  I rebooted my xbox, went to applications in the main UnleashedX menu...all I see is "text editor".  Can't seem to find anything labled "Extras" on the dashboard, unless I go to the File Explorer and navigate to it.

Am I doing this incorrectly?

NVM, figured it out.  I copied the extras folder from my 1.1 rar to my xbox e/apps/ directory, then pasted the contents of the 1.1.1 MA folder in to it, overwriting that one file.  The readme wasn't too clear on that, lol.

I noticed in your sig it says you're running the the NDURE stuff, as well as a 500gb hard drive...how did you do that?  Everyone told me that the max HDD size was 120gb or 140gb.

You need to stop listening to people who haven't modded an Xbox since 2003, because "everyone" is totally wrong!! All decent softmods will natively support discs of up to 2TB, although you can't buy them that big. You simply build the disk in the normal way using one of these methods, then format any partitions >256GB with XBPartitioner 1.1. Around 8G of the disk is allocated to the standard C, E, X, Y, and Z partitions, and you can choose to have the rest as one large F partition (referred to as .06, partition 6 only), or the first ~129GB as F and the rest as G (referred to as .67, partitions 6 and 7).

I decided to go with this HD...

I think I'll be using the chimp method to do this, since it seems to fit my setup the best.

I'm also currently downloading the most recent stable build of XBMC, decided that I want to run it as my default dash with Unleashed as an app.  It seems to have better support than Unleashed, and is updated more often.
