I modded a xbox with Ndure 3.0 using the pinned tutorial at the top of this section. For a few months, it worked without any problem; then one day the xbox crashed when I was playing some emulator game - the nightmare started from there:
From then now, if I did not unplug the xbox for more than a few hours, the xbox will not boot to dash - sometimes it hangs at the logo, sometimes an error code (6 or 7 or something else, the codes seem to change from time to time), and sometimes it just shows a black screen.
If I unplug the xbox for a few hours, it will boot normally into the MS dash where I need to set the clock. Then it will work perfectly after a reboot - untill I turn it off.
If I did not unplug the xbox after I played it, the next time it simple won't boot, with issues I described above.
Anyone knows what happened to my xbox? Thanks in advance!

errors 6 and 7 are related to the harddisk. So, probably your harddisk is going bad. If you haven't done it yet and still have the option, backup the xbox eeprom and transfer it to your pc. If you have the eeprom.bin file, you can prepare a new harddisk without the need to hotswap.

you might want to upload a fresh set of dashboard files to E:\dash\ folder. I think unleashx or whatever dash you are using is corrupted. When you disconnect the xbox for couple of hours, it boots ms dashboard so it means everything on C drive is working fine. When you boot to ms dash, you can just place any boot disk ( slayers disk/ home made boot disk etc) and it will boot. From there you can get ftp access.

I will try to replace the unleashx to see what happens.
By the way, I just checked the error codes I got - mostly error 13, sometimes 21 (not 6 or 7 as I originally posted) - it really seems my problem is dash related.
But this is really strange, since I could boot into unleashx without problem after reset the clock in the MS dash every time the xbox is unplugged long enough.

I changed to dash to XMBC, and still found the same problem.
Maybe I should try Ndure 3.1 - Is there a way to udpate xbox directly without opening it up and using the PC installer?

It's possible to ftp the new softmod over, but it's not easy.
Some things change on the C partition, others on the E partition.
You will only get one chanche to do it right.

I would find myself another lockable harddisk.
I would prepare it for xbox use with xboxhdm and the kingroach ndure 3.1 softmod.

You can extract the original M$dash files from a Slayers or AID rescue iso.

If that works, you know it's your harddisk. If you have the same problems, it's your mobo or your supply.
