I took a quick look at the tutorial. They don't mention putting a cd or dvd in the xbox....
They just build a bootable cd for the pc.
It looks like the dvd drive of that xbox is defective.
Even if you swap it with a working one, it will only play music and original games when it's not modded.

Backup it's eeprom. You will need it to lock the bigger harddisk.
