redo the softmod with the orignal xboxHDM disk that worked (or the files if you can FTP)
making sure NOT to put the eeprom.bin on the xbox HDD
then add a E:\NKP11\video.bin file with just a "3" using a text editer (no quotes)
then boot the MS dash and set HD resolution (720p or 1080i if the monitor supports it)

once it boots to evox or unleashX you can fix anything using FTP so you don't need to hotswap anymore..

OK, so I was apparently doing something wrong before. I can now get NDTS and the MS dash to boot just fine. However, I'm now back at my dorm and only have the monitor to use. I know the keypresses to get into the MS dash, and using headphones can verify that I am actually there. Is there a reliable way to blindly enable the necessary settings for VGA?

if you added the video.bin it will force 480p as a minimum and your VGA montor should work
but if your booting NDTS to get to the MS dash it will revert back to 480i
and if your not booting the MS dash from the eject button (to get to the HD settings)
you will need to add the file E:\NKP11\eeprom_off.bin (anything in the file is ok) for the settings
to actualy update the eeprom
