Resurrecting A Virgin 1.6 Box With Ec 16
« on: September 23, 2008, 07:48:00 AM »

I am trying to resurrect a virgin 1.6 box that has the Error Code 16 using a HotSwap.

Full details on my endeavor here:

http://forums.xbox-s...p;#entry4347469

Now, I was referred to a post by Krazie......

..... on how to do the hotswap, but I am confused about one point.

5: put in a bootdisc in xbox A (make sure ftp settings are correct in this bootdisc)
6: power off xbox A and remove HDD IDE cable
7: power on xbox A and let it fully boot the bootdisc
8: put HDD from xbox B to xbox A free IDE cable
9: start ftp client connect and hit refresh

Now, when I do #6 and #7, the mod'ed XBOX (XBOX A) boots up with an EVOX Error Code of 09.

So, I am thinking one of two things.

Either I need to hook up the IDE from XBOX B to XBOX A before I boot up XBOX A

OR

I need a specific BIOS in XBOX A that will allow for booting from a disk without an HD connected.

Any advice would be most appreciated...

what happens then..

hotswap:
part 1; get locked HDD unlocked by forcing error and then removing IDE cable (do not remove power or turn off xbox)
part 2; conect NOW unlocked HDD to chiped/tsop'ed xbox with boot disk inserted and power on..

it will boot the boot disk so you can FTP to fix files

I was going to ask how to create a boot disk.. I was hoping that one of my Slayer's disks would boot with IP configured, but no luck.

So, I tried the option to boot up both boxes and then put the IDE cable from the mod'ed box onto the HD from the bad box..

I was able to FTP into the box and delete all the C Drive and then FTP stock C Drive files over.

But it didn't work.  The bad box still booted up with an EC 16 and, when I set everything back up, the files on the bad box's C Drive had reverted to what they were.

So, I am back to creating an XBOX Boot disk...

It appears that the bad XBOX HD is not unlocking when it gets to the EC 16.

Going to try the LPC Modchip route and see if that works.
