2. You were transferring files on E drive and e:\dash only and did not touch C drive?

if you using a newer softmod
and seeing how it boots the MS dash with eject
it should still boot a backup disk and/or any boot disk IE: slayers to FTP

Good chance you can recover the xbox - get Frosty's xbox rescue disc from the usual place. Burn it to a DVD-R (minus sign) at low speed and cold-boot from the disc. You should have ftp access for recovery. Alternatively the disc has a file manager onboard.

Personally I use ImgBurn but the media and the compatibility with the dvd drive matters more than the burning prog IMHO. Some media just click better with the xbox dvd drive and they are quite fussy.

it is XBOX ISO aware ( it list's all the files in the iso)

You use the same tools : Frosty's disc and xboxhdm for the hdd upgrade.

1. You'll need eeprom backup. You used Ndure 3.0 right? e:\ndts\default.xbe should have an eeprom backup option somewhere... ftp the eeprom.bin to PC.
2. Boot with Frosty's disc to disable shadow C. Over ftp, backup C drive and E drive to PC. Include those in your xboxhdm iso along with eeprom.bin. http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=244043 has the details on where to place these files.

Keep eeprom.bin safe - email a copy to yourself. That's the softmod xbox's insurance policy if anything goes wrong.

By the way, it was throwing errors when booting up. Something like read_intr error 51 or something like that. Am I correct in say that the new drive is locked? I will admit that when following one guide I did attempt to lock the drive and I think I might have messed it up. I had used the master hd password and it locked but i could never get it to unlock.

Will xbox hd maker actually tell me if the whole process fails?

1. Are you using the cloning option within xboxhdm itself?
2. You have to describe in more details what you did exactly when attempting to lock the drive (which hdd - new or old) and how master password came into the picture for us to help.
3. xboxhdm should report if the hdd is locked or otherwise.
4. You don't need to clone the whole of the old drive usually, unless you have a lot of content like gamesaves which you want to transfer. Ftp method of backup of C and E drives to build the iso might be faster.

1. Did you use the DOS commands to try the "hdd key" and the "XboxHDKey"?
2. All locking and unlocking commands require a reboot to take effect.
3. The reason why some tutorials say the manual typing of hdd password might brick the hdd is because a wrong typo means the hdd is locked without any means to unlock it.
4. I'm not certain what is the security state of the hdd now since you have tried various commands. In xboxhdm boot option 3, type detectpm and see what it says.

I have not tried the dos utilities yet, but here is the security state of the drive. I know for a fact that there were no typos:

Security supported: Yes
Security enabled: Yes
Security locked: Yes
Security frozen: No
Security count expired: No

Should I try to unlock the drive using the dos utilities?

Just in case anyone was wondering, I did get everything to work. The 160 gig drive works. The old 10 gig drive works as well. Everything is going just as it should. I'm just wondering, I did use a font exploit, so when/if I have to unplug my xbox, the hack will go into the dreaded clock loop correct? Is there a new hack that I can apply on top of it to make sure it does not come undone?

Ndure doesn't suffer from clock loop.

If it was installed properly, it shouldn't have clock loop problems.

If the clock backup is fine, it will boot you directly into a modded dash.

If the clock lost it settings, it will bring you to the M$dash clock setting screen.

After setting the clock, you press A to go to the main M$dash screen and you can IGR (in game reset) to go to the modded dash. (or reboot)

The kingroach ndure softmod has a backdoor you can use if you managed to disable the softmod. It is the UDDAE. You can choose if you install it or not.
