Xbox Has Error 6
« on: August 20, 2008, 07:25:00 PM »

well im stuck in a weird situation...

heres wat happened:

i used the ndure softmod through xboxhdm to softmod my xbox(i did not back up my eeprom cause i didnt know how to back up eeprom in unleashx)...then i started to add apps through flashfxp

i wanted to clear space in my e drive so i formated the e drive and i rebooted(dumb move)so i got error 21 and was able to boot to the ms dash but not the unleashx dash

so i used my xboxhdm disk again to reinstall the dash but it said the hd was locked..so i used atapwd to wipe out my drive and disabled the security. when i turned it on it gave me an error 5....so then i ran the disk again and tried to lock it using "lockhd -p"

now my xbox boots giving me an error 6 and im losing my mind trying to fix it. can someone help before i throw my xbox down a cliff (IMG:style_emoticons/default/grr.gif)

error 6 means that the harddisk is locked with a wrong password.
You will need to unlock the harddisk again and lock it with the correct password.

error 5 means that the harddisk is not locked.
the original xbox bios refuses to boot with an unlocked harddisk.

If you have trouble unlocking the harddisk with the user password, you can try the master password that xboxhdm has set.

regards.

When you used lockhd -p, what password did you supply? Use that to unlock the hdd.

You will need to build an eeprom reader since I gather you don't have eeprom backup. The softmod xbox requires the hdd is locked with the correct password generated from the eeprom to boot.

The xbox generates the unique user password from its eeprom contents, the hdd serial no and model no to lock and unlock the hdd. The error 6 means the xbox can't unlock the hdd and it's obvious why - the user password was set to WDCWDC.. which it doesn't know about. WDCWDC... is the master password.

In xboxhdm, you can unlock with either the user password or master password so that should work.

A Slayer's disc is useless for softmods , except as a means to get retail msdash files.

LiveInfo just allows you to check the security state of the hdd and also calculate the user password based on the eeprom.bin file which you have to supply. I don't think you have eeprom.bin as you didn't get to do the eeprom backup.

Error 5 means the hdd is unlocked - all softmod xbox hdd needs to be locked - moreover the hdd must be locked with the right password for the xbox to unlock it.

A breadboard is an alternative to soldering for building the eeprom reader:

The linked post specified how I used old parts to substitute.

Shield - Metal sheet thing on the casing.

For the breadboard eeprom reader, I just stuck the cables' end in the LPC holes. The wires of the right size will help.

http://forums.afterd...view.cfm/357863 is the original eeprom reader. The breadboard design is usually: top and bottom rows are linked horizontally while the other holes are linked vertically. Here's a diagram. Anyway this is not related to XBE exploits so we are out of topic. We can continue in the hardware forum if you have further questions.
