V1.6 Softmod Recover
« on: May 12, 2008, 08:05:00 AM »

Hello all!

I have modded quite a few xboxes before, but all have been hard installs.  I understand the bioses, dashboards, ftp and others that involve the use of chips.

I have not, however, had the pleasure to do softmods or TSOPs sad.gif

I recently received a softmodded v1.6 in a trade.  It worked fine (booted to M$ bios and would do a soft reset to enter the evos dash).  I wanted to change the boot up sequence (to xbmc) and assumed that all i had to do was rename the dashboard xbe sad.gif

now, it just shows a blank screen.  Anyway, i temporarily installed a chip and using another stock HD (unlocked).  I would like to install necessary files so I can lock it up and remove the chip and return it to its working softmod mode.  I have been skimming through some softmod tuts and they involve memory cards, games, action replay, hd hot swap, etc.  I even looked at this tut http://www.xbox-scen...modded-xbox.php that involves two xbox (chipped and unchipped)

Since the xbox already has the chip in there, is there a shorter way to put the files in there?
Can't i just ftp certain files, lock it up and voila?
If so, can someone list or link files i need?

Thanks so much

Yes, you can ftp in the files: http://forums.xbox-s...howtopic=411052 and lock the hdd after that. Files are in the linked post.

thanks for the link!

I have been reading it and it seems to be a fairly easy fix.

I just checked the kernel version on the M$ dash and it says 5035.
I don't see that version in the kernel selection

what should i do?

Not choosing any kernel version will default to generic kernel which works in most situations.

softmodding with like krayzies autoinstaller is stupid simple.
basically one you have a mem card and the save games, it just clicking install.
then once thats done... extract the newest xbmc into a folder, name it dashboard, then ftp in, delete the original dashboard folder on the e partition, then send the new one over. reboot and you have xbmc as your dash.
