If yours is a PC with an IDE connection , use xboxhdm (option 3 followed by lockhd -a) to lock it. If you can access another modded xbox, you can use configmagic or chimp26 to lock it too.

hi
installed configmagic on the modded box
then wrote the eeprom from the unmodded box to the modded box
locked the harddisk
and worked again

then wrote the orig eeprom back to the modded
