Scrolling/rolling Component Video After Ndure Softmod
« on: March 26, 2008, 02:55:00 AM »

I recently decided that I wanted to upgrade the hdd in my (xboxhdm ndure installed) softmodded 1.6 xbox. I had a spare 80 gig drive so i read all the tutorials on how to do it without a chipped box. What I did is used xboxhdm 1.9 to create a new xbox hdd from scratch. This worked perfectly and I tested that it booted fine to the msdash. I popped the drive back into my pc and used the ndure (3.1) to exploit it. It booted up into UnleashX with crazy scrolling/rolling video corruption like you see trying to play PAL on an NTSC set. I FTP'd over a couple other dashes, but they all exhibit the same problem. However, when I plug in using the standard composite cable, everything is fine. I should note that xbox games will run fine over component, so there's something wrong with the softmod.

The only thing I can think of is that I somehow set up the ndure installer options wrong somehow. Should I not have selected Nkpatcher 0.6?

btw this is the only other info I could find on the entire interwebs about this problem: http://www.xbox100.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14373

Well, I gave up trying to fix the issue with component cables and have just been using composite for now, my tv sucks anyway so it's not a big difference. The weird thing is if I hook it up to my original softmodded drive component works fine, but I like having a much larger HDD more!

I have another problem with my softmod though. If I try to change the time through XBMC the xbox freezes and I have to reset. I can still boot up the msdash and change the time, but I'd like to get everything working more smoothly. Perhaps I have a problem with shadowc preventing me from changing settings? I'm really curious as to what is causing all these problems with the new drive, because I used ndure on both of them.

Hi,

the ndure softmod has a couple of options that are related to the video output. Maybe, you selected the wrong ones for your tvset. The 06 or 67 version differ in the way your disk is partitionned. 06 uses all free space for F partition and 67 uses F and G partition.

Your Xbmc problem with the clock setting is kind of strange. Are you using a CVS build or a stable release?

regards.

I'm using the latest CVS: XBMC-SVN_2008-03-23_rev12263-T3CH

copy eeprom.bin in the E:\NKP11\ folder and see what happens.. and regarding the component issue.. seems like you choose a wrong nkpatcher.. You can run E:\ndts\default.xbe and reinstall one of the nkpatcher to see if it solves the problem..

I copied my eeprom.bin to E:\NKP11\, is that what you meant? It didn't seem to do anything with the clock problem. As far as reinstalling nkpatcher, I have no idea which one to try. Is there a run down of what these different options mean somewhere?

Thanks

I have a similar problem - modded a box with NDure 3.1 and xboxhdm using a composite cable on SDTV.  Everything works fine.  Put the box on an HDTV with component cable, the main logo screen comes up fine in 4:3 and then UnleashX goes to widescreen and the colors are all messed up (pinkish hue).  If I use the composit cable, the colors are fine, but can't do wide screen.  Tried launching default.xbe from E:\NKP11\ and setting screen to wide screen HD settings and the colors look right.  Save settings, reboot to UnleashX and the wide screen resolutions look right, but the colors are still wrong.  I shutdown and restart, the settings change back to old settings.  (I have read posts on fixing this problem, but haven't tried it yet).  I am really concerned with the color situation.  If I start a game via DVD the colors are right, so I know it's not the cable or TV.  Has anyone seen this type of problem before and found a simple fix.

Thanks.

to fix the color
create a file with a zero "0" hex or ascii does not mater (can be larger then one byte, as only the byte first is used)
name it video.bin
then FTP it to E:\NKP11\

use a "1" if you want force progressive (480p or higher)
"2" is VGA
"3" is both  ( 1,2 could be swaped can't remember)

create a file E:\NKP11\eeprom_off.bin any size and any data
now your HD settings will stick
