Softmod Working Ok But No Ms Dash!
« on: December 25, 2007, 04:18:00 AM »

after a lot of effort, failure and re-trying i finally managed to softmod my xbox and am now happily running xbmc as my dash (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

something has gone wrong though as i can no longer access the standard ms dash. i presume i'm missing some files on the drive somewhere. is anyone able to tell me what i need to do?

Hi,

check your c partition. It will probably be empty. This means that it is a shadow c. It is a file that emulates the C partition. If you ftp the unmodded M$dash files to that c partition, you will have access again to the M$dash.

regards.

obcd knows what he is saying. I suppose you didn't backup the C:\ partition correctly.

Hi again,

hard to answer.

what softmod are you using? what tutorial did you follow? Most modern softmods install their new dashboard on the e partition.

The first thing I would do is backup the xbox eeprom to my pc. If you have another drive somewhere around, you might retry a softmod on that one. You can always return to your original softmodded drive if things go wrong.

regards.

you could always just add the MS Dash as an application. just make a folder, add all the files and directories, rename "xboxdash.xbe" to "default.xbe"

CODE

E:\Apps\Ms Dash\default.xbe

not the best soultion but it should work

without a shadow C drive it won't work since it would interfere with the C drive's fonts files. The msdash executable is hardcoded to look for it's files on C. You could hex the xbe to look for it's fonts elsewhere though
