Using Modchipped Xbox To Softmod A Xbox
« on: December 13, 2007, 09:57:00 PM »

i presume this should be a simple question..

i have 2 xboxs, one is modchipped with X3, the other didnt even have a HDD (i got it for free anyway and i have a bunch of HDDs around)

reading a bunch of the softmod exploits etc the main purpose of the start of these is to gain FTP access to the xbox (using the games and so forth)

my question is, since i can just easily plop the new hdd in my X3 xbox and format and FTP to it (which i have done now) couldnt i just FTP whatever softmod exploit i want onto the hdd and stick it back in the other xbox?

if so is there any pack with everything setup so i can just ftp the files onto the new hdd? because from preliminary reading i need the original dash of certain versions and i dont have the original dash on either box

if i need the original dash, is there anyway to download and plop it onto my new HDD it other than live?

or is there some better way to do this?

you could use ndure pc installer and slayers for the files. still you will need the eeprom to lock it with the right key. if you don't have the eeprom backup you will need an eeprom reader or a modchip to bring it back to live.

i think that works for what i need, but i dont think it has the original dashboard with it does it? and i think i need that for all softmods?

heres what i have in short:

two xboxs

1 unmodded xbox with completely formatted hdd (nothing on it not even original dash)

1 modded with X3 which i can put the formatted hdd in (so unlocking, ftp, eeprom etc is no problem.. but it dosnt have a MSdash)

i dont have any of 3 the games required for some of the softmods (but i presume that dosnt matter since i can FTP using the X3 console right?)

i dont have original MS dash on either xbox or even a backup of it (which i presume is the biggest problem here)

so i guess my real question now is, would the programs you recommended have the dash needed or would i have to work out some way to get it on the xbox? (maybe use the formatted hdd in the modchipped console and run a game with a dashboard update?)

or is it not needed at all? just follow the steps to install with that program and thats it?

(edit: forgot to mention.. i dont need to be able to run LIVE or anything so that dosnt worry me.. im setting the extra xbox up mainly for system link and for XBMC)

This is what you need:

[illegal link removed

In the "What do you need?" section you can get links to all you need to softmod an xbox.
I recommend getting the "mhackxbox.rar" - that way you can palce whatever dash you want into the
"dashboard" folder on "E:" (If it's not there create it).
The only thing is to remember to lock the new HD after you've FTP'd all the stuff to it. The easiest way to do this would be to transfer your x3 chip to the other xbox and do it from the system bios.
Or if you can, flash your TSOP with a x2 bios then you won't have to worry about the HD being locked or not if you want to change it in the future.
