N00b Needs Softmod Clarifications
« on: December 08, 2007, 11:39:00 AM »

I just softmodded my xbox via the xboxhdm method.  I used the tutorial here (I've seen now that it seems to be an altered version of the one pinned to the top of this forum).  Everything seems to be mostly fine and dandy, but I have a couple of questions...

Firstly, restarting the box sometimes seems to bring up the MS dash instead of the modded one, so that I have to go through the whole EggsBox mission again.  (Out of interest, how does this work, and why do I have to mess with soundtracks twice to do it?)  Why would it not load the modded dash every time?

Second, in what ways is it now safe to mess with soundtracks, especially after taking the above issue into account?  I tried using XBOX Soundtrack Editor 0.97, but it came up with a whole lot of unnamed soundtracks that I could not add music too, so I'm not sure how or what I can do to add music.  (My main interest is in messing around, say to put some of my wma's on so that I can listen to them in San Andreas or whatever)

Any info's appreciated, thanks in advance.

Hi,

the <<EggsBox>> Easter Egg trick is a backdoor to get back into your softmod. You normally don't need it.

The normal M$dash will come up when the clock looses it's information. If you disconnect the mains for a couple of hours, it will reboot to the m$dash and the clock screen will show up.

You should set the clock (if you have no ethernet connection). Press the A button and perform an IGR

(Left Trigger + Right Trigger + Back + Black simultanously). Your xbox should now come up with it's new dash.

If you check this forum for the UDDAE exploit, you should get more information about how it works. To really understand this information is another story.

regards.

Thanks for the reply.  The thing is, that it's coming into the MS Dash without the power being disconnected, and without it needing the time to be reset.  It happened twice yesterday, which sadly isn't enough for me to work out the exact circumstances.

Again, anyone have any info on the soundtrack editing thing?

does it boot to ms dash even with power button?..if you used the ndure 3.1 then check if you have a file called clock.xbe in E:\NKP11\ folderif there is then delete it.. or look at shadowc ( the shadowc should be the c drive when you cant see folders like bios, media in the C drive).. rename xboxdash.xbe from shadowc to something else..

Yeah, it just goes to the MS Dash randomly sometimes when there's no disc in.  Funnily enough though, it's not giving any trouble when there is a disc in - wrong region and other discs that shouldn't run without modding work fine.  I'll give messing with the files a go if I find it to be doing it more often than i thought.
