Can't Boot M$dash After Softmod, Other Way To Set Hidef?
« on: November 29, 2007, 08:09:00 PM »

This site is an amazing resource, and I appreciate the work that people like Kingroach have put into making things accessible for the average noob - Thanks!

I've softmodded three Xbox's using Kingroach's installer, and I thought I was using the same procedure on each. One of them won't boot the M$ Dash (Error 21), and of course that's the one with the 250 GB HDD that I want to use a Vdigi transcoder to do high definition output on.

I tried copying the M$ dash files over from one of the boxes that are working correctly (boots into M$dash with eject button/UnleashX with power button), but I only succeeded in making this box boot into M$ dash ONLY, and had to redo the softmod on it. (D'oh!) It did give me a chance to test the Vdigi box, tho...

I'm perfectly happy living without the M$dash if there's a way to set HiDef output from a different dash. Does anyone know how to do this? (Without rebuilding the HDD.)

Is there a tut for exactly which files to copy over from a working softmodded box (and where to put them) in order to get the M$dash working again on this one? (Without rebuilding the HDD)

As a peripheral question: Do any of the dashboards work in 480i/p? The Vdigi box wouldn't give my monitor a recognized signal from the M$ dash, but as soon as I launched Halo2, the image was fine. I'd love to be able to see the dashboard and make adjustments, without having to reconnect it to a TV.

Thanks for the help!

=====
Step 1
=====

Boot E:/ndts/default.xbe

This will disable the shadow C and reveal your true C

Next FTP to your C:/shadow folder and delete everything inside.

Then transfer over your shadowc.img from your xboxhdm disc to your shadow folder

Next transfer over your resc folder from your xboxhdm disc to your shadow folder

Finally transfer over your filler.img from your xboxhdm disc to your shadow folder

Do it in that order and it's ok if you run out of hdd space while transferring over the filler.img

======
Step 2
======

Now Reboot xbox

FTP to your xbox again.

Look at your C drive. It should be empty! If it's not reboot your xbox again and refresh your ftp client or close and re-open it. Also make sure your not booting E:/ndts/default.xbe

The C drive looks empty because it is not your real C drive it's the shadowc.

Now transfer over your clean virgin unmodded C drive contents. If you don't have clean C drive files you can use the clean C drive files from Slayers Disc in System All.

Reboot again with eject. Your default MS Dash now works with no error 21.

No, the problem is with the REAL C and the MS dash files on it ..

compare with the installer folder files..

you can only set HD with the MS dash
if you get the MS dash working from the shadowC then you will have problems with the settings
staying across reboots provided the virtual EEPROM is active unless you disable it
