Xbox Hd Locked Problem - Option 4 - Now Unknown Pw
« on: August 08, 2007, 12:32:00 PM »

I have recently hacked another Xbox of mine with ease but had a lot of problems with my first.

As I backed my files up on my first Xbox using Config magic I unlocked it and rebooted the system.  I sent the EEPROM via ftp before the reboot so I do have it on file.  Before I continue I must note that I made several CDs with the eeprom file via config magic on my second xbox to install a new hard drive with no sucsess.  I had to use the eeprom file from backup in Evox for some unusual reason to finally upgrade my HD.

Well, as one can imagine, after long tedious hours of trying to upgrade a HD one makes mistakes.  On my first Xbox I had entered option 4 of the Ndure disk to Lock / Unlock via MS Dos tools.  Well I locked the already unlocked HD (which became non functional in the Xbox because I couldn't lock it back at the time) with what I thought was TEAMASSEMBLY for easy use.  However, I've entered that password in many different ways and spellings and have had no luck unlocking the HD so I could access it again.

My question is simple but I just wanted to give you some backup info in case it was needed.

How do I unlock a HD with an unknown PW?  I can't reformat the drive ect... or anything while its in this state.  The dos program doesn't set a master password like option 3.

Hi,

if you ran the dos program from a floppy, it should have created a file with the password you typed in on the floppy. If you run the lock program again (on that or another disk), the file will be overwritten and you are out of luck.

TEAMASSEMBLY is a master password. The normal password to unlock a harddisk is the same you typed in to lock it.

After unlocking a disk with the password, you also have to disable the security. If you don't, it will lock itself again after a power on reset.

The atapwd program does not make the backup on floppy.

Some guys on the web have a paying service to unlock harddisks.

Some of the stock harddisks can be unlocked by reflashing new firmware to the disk. I do believe you loose the disk locking capability after you have done that. So, you can't use it anymore in a softmodded xbox.

I have also seen a tutorial where they made a serial connection to the harddisk and started to hexedit some stuff in it with the hyperterminal program. This is also only possible with one specific type of stock harddisk.

Did you forgot the password you used to lock the disk, or do you simply have problems to unlock it again with the same password?

If you put the disk in your xbox, you probably get a error screen. Does it show a error numbber? What number?

regards.

Well when I enter the PW I thought I set it at under option 4 it says success.... but then again it says that no what pw you use.  Perhaps I am getting the pw right but do not know how to disable the security you speak of.

My floopy drive is disfunctional or I would have been more than glad to have saved my pw on it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)  I'm nearly 100% positive I did lock it with TEAMASSEMBLY but it adds a number digit after your pw if you do not use any within its context.

Anyway, how do I disable security once unlocked under option 4?  Or must I go about it another way?

Thanks,
Ryan

Hi,

xboxhdm probably unlocks a disk and disables security all in one step. If you can access the harddisk, you know it is unlocked.

I wouldn't start using other tools, as you might complicate things even more doing so.

Some pc biosses are having trouble with locked harddisks. Turning the auto detection of the disks off in the Bios sometimes helps. Simply set all harddisks to NONE.

If you locked the disk with Xboxhdm, it should have set TEAMASSEMBLY as a master locking password independant of the normal password.

regards.
