Hi,
yes, others have tried this to, and a lot of them end up in this forum.
It looks like the xboxhdm cd is running fine until you try to lock the harddisk.
So, you will need a alternative way to lock your harddisk.
The LiveInfo program (for windows) can calculate the HD password from the Eeprom HDDKey
Just make sure you select your xbox harddisk in the IDE Device field. Click into the field and hit the enter button to get a list of available harddisks on your computer. The dropdown button doesn't work on some OSes.
There are dos tools that can lock and unlock your harddisk. Look for atapwd.zip and hddunlock.zip.
These tools don't set a Master password on your disk. If you make a typo, or lock your disk several times, not being carefull with the password, you will be unable to unlock the disk afterwards. Don't blame me for it, you are warned. Make sure you fully understand what you are doing before you attempt to lock your harddisk.
If you don't have a floppy drive, you might try to create a bootable USB stick. HP has a tool to do this.
check for cp006049.exe
it can use a bootable floppy image and transfer it to a USB stick.
If you have other troubles besides the locking and unlocking of the harddisk, please let us know. Maybe someone can use that information to create a good tutorial about how to solve those issues.
More and more modern pc mobo's come with only 1 ide controller.
regards.
Sorry,
I had missed the hotswap part.
You could get your xbox Eeprom contents on 2 other different ways:
1. With a modchip. You will only need it temporary to get the Eeprom content.
2.With a Eeprom reader. Check this article.
