Super Screwed?
« on: February 04, 2007, 10:51:00 PM »

Ok heres the low down, I followed Textbooks guide on how to softmod my box, followed it to a T the only thing is that my dash was 4034(I dont have any new games post Halo2 or a live account, cant upgrade my dash) I know it says it wont work but I have no other choice, so I went ahead and installed the softmod exploit, yes you know what happen, it boots up flubber and just past that no screen.  My drive is now locked and have no way of unlocking it, can anyone give me any advice on how to get this going again without a modchip.

Thanks

So your dash wasn't the most recent and you did a full install anyway?

Quick Mod lesson dude, do research and gather all the required components before going ahead.

Did you at least back up your eeprom or any files to your computer first?  If you didn't then I fear you might have turned your xbox into a brick.

you need the drive locked.. or softmods/retail won't work   .. do not unlock it ever, unless you have the eeprom from that xbox ... this is the reason for the hotswap

just try again (change you're timing and or use error 12 method-disconnect ide from dvd drive) and use the simple install option for a basic softmod... then you can sort everything out from there

Yes kingroach I got it using XboxHDM using xboxhd and 6 and 7 for generating a code, but not sure if I did it right, read through your thread XboxHDM for dummies but didnt come across the answer for my question.

you probably screwed it all up, what tut told you to start playing with the locking-unlocking tools ?

... if you do not have the key for you're particular xbox, you cannot re-lock the drive with the correct key.

REpeating IMPORTANT POINT ......"the correct key can only be got from you're xbox when it is modded"   .. it cannot be retrieved from the hard drive.

hence the number 1 golden softmod rule... NEVER UNLOCK YOU'RE HARD DRIVE

sorry to be harsh, but I think you were not getting the point, you need to buy a chip because you un-locked you're drive without having the proper key... you can only lock it now with a key that won't match you're xbox.. so no go, with softmods or even running it retail.. at least untill you chip it.

its not ruined.. you can still hotswap.. and recover the disk by building the hd from scratch.. You think you unlocked the drive but xboxhdm's 6/7 option doesnt unlock your drive.. and it cant be unlocked without eeprom which you didnt have anyway.. The code xboxhdm generated isnt your hd unlock key..

the codes generated by xboxhdm are for what..... nothing?  Can I format the drive(raw) and rebuild from scratch and pop it into the xbox then shut it off to lock it? will that work? what are my other options, without chipping.
