Have Softmod, Eeprom Bin File, And Configmagic
« on: December 12, 2006, 08:36:00 AM »

Hello All,

I have an Xbox v1.4 (LPC is still grounded.) with a new harddrive that has been successfully softmodded.  It also has Config Magic 1.6 installed.  Coldboot works fine, but I have been careful not to sign into LIVE because my original EEPROM has been married to my original hard drive. Of course, I don't want to get banned.  I therefore obtained a new and unused EEPROM.BIN file to go with my new harddrive.  Folllowing these instructions I was able to get to step 8 (Update XBox EEPROM) successfully.  I've tried two versions of ConfigMagic and both "appear" to run successfully, however, when I get to steps 9 and 10 (Load XBox EEPROM), my original eeprom information shows up.

I've read other articles about updating an EEPROM but in that instance, they have access to an XBox with a modchip.

So I guess my question is: Does the eeprom updating part of ConfigMagic work with a softmod or does it require a modchip?

So far I have found nothing that explicitly says a modchip is required, although I'm beginning to think that is the case.

Thanks

(edited links and grammar)

I'm guessing your using Krayzies Ndure softmod? If so then I think the virual eeprom is blocking you from making changes (flashing) the real eeprom. I think you need to use the extras to disable the virtual eeprom. Not positive, I've never had to make eeprom changes while softmodded.

Yes I am using Krayzie's Ndure softmod.

BRILLIANT suggestion!  I forgot about the virtual eeprom.  I'll have to try that when I get home.  Thanks for the advice.  I will keep you posted.

Yes, disable the virtual EEPROM, but before enabling it again, copy the changes from your real EEPROM to the virtual one. Otherwise, when you boot with the softmod it will use your old EEPROM and some gamesaves may not be compatible (as they use parts of the eeprom as a key to sign savegames).
